Can you get a re-entry permit for a SETV?

Recommended Posts

Can you get a re-entry permit for a 60 day SETV? I've got a friend who just arrrived to Thailand from Finland (Finnish passport holder) on a SETV and we're going to Vietnam for a 1-week trip. Can he get a re-entry permit for this at the Suvarnabhumi airport, or will the visa be automatically void and he has to get a new visa in Hanoi?

He can get a single re-entry permit for a fee of 1000 baht that will keep the remainder of the 60 day entry from the tourist visa valid when he enters the country. He will be stamped into the country to the date the entry from the tourist visa ends.

He can get the re-entry permit at the airport. The re-entry permit is just before the departure desks in immigration zone 2 at Suvarnabhumi.

after getting and using the re-entry permit, can one still get that extra 30 day extension?  So, let's say you have a SETV.  You stay in thailand 45 days, buy a reentry permit then go to Cambodia for 1 or 2 weeks or more, then come back in with the re-entry permit, then you get to use 15 days.  Can you now get the 30 day extension so that you get a total of 90 days in Thailand?

I assume after that first 45 days, you could stay in Cambodia or Laos or wherever more than a few weeks, and then come back into Thailand, as long as you do all the travels within the validity dates of the Visa, which I think spans 6 months from the time of original issue?

Yes you can still get the 30 day extension.

Your example is not correct though. If you left after 45 days and left for 2 weeks (14 days) you would only get an entry of one day since that is all that would be remaining of the 60 days.

a re-entry permit preserves the original date  of permited to stay that was given on entry,

so in your example if you leave on day 45 and return 14 days later you would be stamped in for 1 day, so in your example you would be better getting a visa exempt entry on the return trip, and if need a 30 day extension on that entry.

a setv is just that a single entry visa, and is now used and best forgotten

oh so the 60 day clock keeps running, even though you are out of the country.  That sucks.

If you are past the enter before date on your visa it is now expired.

A re-entry permit only keeps the remainder of the 60 day entry from the visa valid when you enter the country.
