Should be spit roasted as an eggsample for that one.

????

Good time to make a couple batches of pickled eggs.

A egg board is usually a government organization that monitors quotas for the market place.

Why not just let the market prevail, eggs are one of the staples for poor

people, and last week at Makro the price had not fallen ,they were up !,

same with the rice, the price has supposed to have fallen,BUT not in

markets,shops.

Simple solution: eat more chicken! Cook 'em fry 'em and give 'em to hospitals, nursery homes, and the three or more flood victims.

The Commerce Minister, Sontirat Sontijirawong, said today that egg prices have decreased due to an excess supply of eggs in the domestic market.

TiT. Produce to excess, then look for ways to get rid of it. The thought of telling the farmers they need to diversify doesn't enter the equation.

Nice thought, but not one that would pacify the farmers. Just like France when the UK first entered the EEC, most of the funding seemed to be going to supporting inefficient French farmers so they could be paid for adding to the milk, butter and sugar excesses they were ever creating.

Thai eggsperts...

Same as any other industry To much of one product (oversupply) the price will Fall.

In my village in the last couple of months,  the Government gave all those who wanted, 10 laying chickens.

Now I imagine these people don't need to buy at the local markets.

Not sure how wide spred this was but I am in Isaan.

Seems a simple explanation for the situation. ?

Good news for me; now they just need to get that cheese thing sorted out. It can't be that difficult to make cheese in-country.

Have I missed something here? What's with the cheese making?

The government should not wait.  While a falling egg may have a price I suspect that of a fallen egg is likely to be dramatically less.

Bet they've got an Ouija Board somewhere, too.

That would be a good idea. It needs spelling out to this incompetent lot.

They could probably use a visit by an Irishman to a chiropodist too - "my fate is in your hands."

Your post brought to mind the Irishman's explanation why tyres on a mini wear out faster than tyres on a larger car.

It's because they go further for the same distance.

Why is no-one taking this story seriously?

Just askin'  ???

I think it just happened to bring out all the egg jokes because of the mention of an 'egg board'.

It went downhill rapidly from there. I've been guilty, sparring comments with Dave67. I did wonder if I might get a reprimand from one of the mods, but it didn't actually go OT,  just got  bit silly.

It did occur to me we perhaps should have moved to the jokes forum, but never mind, eh?

How about the Thai Commerce Ministry 'tackling' the 'high prices' of most other items in Thai Supermarkets.   Prices here are on a par and in many cases higher than Western countries; how can that make sense in a country where wages are a lot lower than in The West ?

Same goes for Car prices, especially second hand....prices are diabolical.

It'll be all-white in the hen.d ! :wai:

And if we can't enjoy a joke or bad pun, or the occasional caption-competition, with our morning coffee & ThaiVisa-news, then life would be depressing !

I had been wondering why eggs seemed so cheap, and why people were touring the villages trying to sell them, off the back of a pick-up.  This story eggsplains it !

This years cold winter ( 8C at night 20C during day ) where I live 50Km south of Khon Kaen may lead to a drop in duck egg production.    In my work here I have seen thousands of ducks stop laying overnight due to being cold.

Also this year there HAVE been outbreaks of either Fowl Cholera and / or Avian Influenza ( on the ground but not on the records ).     I would be cautious about culling flocks now.    Yes, the cold weather will lead to increased feed costs for both layers and commercial birds but perhaps farm extension services, if they exist, should be advising alternative management practices to farms: no hope of this I expect.
