Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial police has set up a probe committee to look into alleged misconduct of senior police officers attending a party with rock singer Sek Loso, who is facing drug abuse charge.

Sek or Seksan Sukphimai posted a video clip of the party on his Facebook showing him with senior police officers in Nakhon Si Thammarat after he was released on bail on firearm charges on Wednesday (Jan 3).

The party was reportedly held at “Isan Ban Rao” restaurant in Muang Nakhon Si Thammarat district. However, the clip was later removed from his Facebook page.

BANGKOK — A senior police officer was removed from active duty Friday and two others placed under investigation after they posed for photos with a celebrity rocker in their custody on firearm charges.

The order to transfer Col. Singh Singhdech, chief of Kannayao Police Station, to an inactive post was about to be signed by his supervisor as of late morning, according to Bangkok police commander Chanthep Sesawech. As for the cause, Chanthep cited a photograph showing Singh giving a thumbs-up with rockstar Sek Loso while he was under arrest Sunday night.

Rock star Sek Loso’s ‘pals’ in uniform face investigation

By The Nation

Police officers in two far-flung jurisdictions are in trouble after photos appeared online of them being chummy with bail-bouncing rock star Seksan “Sek Loso” Sukphimai.

Cops in Bangkok and Nakhon Si Thammarat evidently couldn’t resist the celebrity allure, despite the fact that he’s accused of firing a pistol into the air at a temple and had methamphetamine and ecstasy in his system when arrested and tested.

Royal Thai Police deputy spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Patanacharoen said on Friday that Pol Maj General Wanchai Ekpornpit – the police chief in Nakhon Si Thammarat, home to the temple where Seksan fired nine rounds into the sky in his own live-online broadcast – had set up a fact-finding committee to determine why his officers were partying with the rock star.

In Bangkok, Khan Na Yao police superintendent Pol Colonel Sing Singhadet has been transferred to an inactive post pending the results of an investigation into a photo of Seksan and him.

Seksan is charged with carrying and discharging a firearm in public and illegally possessing an unregistered gun.

He flaunted the evidence in a Facebook Live broadcast last Friday and was arrested at his home in Bangkok’s Bang Khen district after an armed confrontation with police, resulting in the additional charge of resisting arrest.

A Bangkok court granted bail so he could answer the warrant for his arrest in the South.

There, Seksan allegedly confessed to carrying and discharging his gun, but insisted he legally owned it and it was registered.

The Nakhon Si Thammarat court granted bail on a Bt150,000 guarantee so he could return to Bangkok to respond to a further charge of drug abuse based on the findings of a urine test. Seksan blamed the test results on sleeping pills.

Somewhere on his travels, Seksan stopped to dine with police officers at a Nakhon Si Thammarat restaurant and swiftly posted cheery photos of the event on Instagram.

Viewers complained that such chumminess on the part of the police was inappropriate and undermined public confidence in their neutrality in the investigation.

Krissana identified Seksan’s fellow diners as superintendent Pol Colonel Rangsan Sukkua and Muang Nakhon Si Thammarat inspector Pol Lt Colonel Theerapol Phumchai, and said they too are now in inactive posts and under investigation.

In Bangkok, Pol Colonel Sing is being asked why his picture also appeared on Instagram with Seksan, posed casually over a table laden with food and beverages, complete with a message from the rocker thanking the officers for “helping things to be easier”.

Sing, seen in the photo making a thumbs-up gesture, said it was taken in his precinct’s investigation room at 7am on January 1 – before the drug-test results were known and before Seksan was brought up to apply for detention.

The beverages were neither alcoholic nor ordered for Seksan, he said. They’d been left there by police officers using the room earlier.

Sing said the photo was taken when two visitors arrived to see Seksan, as was their right – Pol Maj General Prasopchoke Prommul, who had put Seksan in drug rehab in 2011, and an executive from Grammy Entertainment.

Metropolitan Police Area 2 chief Pol Maj General Ekkachai Boonwisut on Friday nevertheless notified Bangkok police chief Pol Lt General Chanthep Sesawet that Sing would face a probe and had meanwhile been transferred to Metropolitan Police Area 2 Office.

Totally the wrong message to send out to people, especially the young. You'd have thought that the authorities would have figured this out by now. Total piss-take.

The only thing that is surprising is that people are surprised! :shock1:

Were not talking about a functioning Police force!

Good business practice!!

When I was arrested I had a picture taken with cops for fun memories.

I also got a nice picture getting my fingerprints taken. So what. It calms the situation. The police have filed the report and it will go to the judge. Its not up to the police what the judgement will be.

I'm not seeing anything illegal here .

So what !!!

I don't think those policemen deserved to be suspended at all.

It's clear the current lot are not performing anywhere near what should be expected of them and their behaviors unacceptable, and even worse they seem to think it's all OK.

Said it before, remove the whole 3 or 4 top layers of police, all of them, and those with history, all dismissed, and put them on 'house leave' for a year.

Replace them with trusted military officers who are there to quickly build new appropriate attitudes, behaviors, processes etc. and to ensure all officers are under total control. Remove more rtp as needed and quickly.

I agree with some of your points but the one about finding trusted military officers is a bit of a moot point as they take orders from superiors and that is that as it's how the military works. I also read in another main media outlet today that they are considering conscript RTP officers as they are so short of them to the tune of 70k...of all the bad ideas in a long list of bad ideas. Hmmm...what can you say.

Are there any 'trusted military officers" out there, from what I have seen going to have to look pretty dam hard to find any! The whole system is corrupted - unfortunately!

Were you convicted? If so what are you doing in Thailand?  The Immigration Act excludes criminals.

Are you aware that Sek was implicated in a fire arms offence? He has a history  of controlled substance offences. It was not appropriate that a police officer pose with him.

I was convicted. I'm now a Thai citizen. We discussed my conviction down at the ministry of interior. They said they hoped I wouldn't make that mistake again. I said I would try not to. ☺

I am friends with the arresting officer to this day 10 years later and throughout my trial, I taught his daughter English. Criminals are human and the police often make friends along the way, especially with habitual criminals that have lost their way. It is actually a policeman's duty to treat criminals kindly and with compassion. Shock and horror that a rock star would use drugs lol. Which century were you born in?

He fired a gun in the air in a moment of excitement after a concert. About 100 other people fired guns in the air that night too.

Blimey...like they do their victims. Nonsense.

When a criminal goes to court they are considered to have rights just like everyone else. Studies have clearly shown that criminals are made that way and not born that way. It's not up to the police to make a judgement who is guilty and who is not. Their duty is to remain neutral and assist both the victim and the criminal through the legal process. It was a long journey to the south, he was considered a low flight risk. They stopped to have something to eat.

Who wouldn't want a picture with a rock star.

You people need caaallm down.

Totally agree, everybody regardless of their wealth, fame or no wealth or fame is entitled to proper process, fair, equal, balanced process no argument whatever.

However turning this situation into a party is not appropriate in any way, and you seem to be saying that it's different because he's a rock star, sorry, I don't buy that for one second.

In other words an indicator of the total lack of capability, professionalism, focus, ethics, appropriate behaviors, etc., of the rtp from very top to very bottom.

Look at the table, there's water and a cup of coffee. I'm not seeing the necessity to destroy 3 policeman's career over this. If the police had done that and he wasn't a star, there would not be a story. The police often give water or a cup of coffee to people. A lot of people were quite worried about loso being taken down the south. The picture showed he was safe and well and being treated appropriately. Really, I am not seeing what the big hooha is about. It rediculous.

Its funny you know Green Unfortunately when you take on a role as an authority in a country such as  Judge, police man Minister even school teacher there are certain standards you must set You know that before you take the job People take notice when they see policemen sitting with a guy who is in trouble with the law Not a good image So first thing that enters in there mind is Hey why they are charging this guy with offences because he has the police on his side and they dont think he is in the wrong. If you saw the PM of Thailand going into a strip joint on walking street what would you think? Prob you would think its ok but the majority of Thai people would be horrified. These policemen are the image of authority in this country and by showing those pics tells the population that they do not really believe in authority and every one can do as they please They should be suspended

He has been charged.

He is in detention.

The case will go to the court and he will be sentenced according to the law. It was a long journey to the south, he was given refreshments. The pm went and met an influential family in the north at the golf course. There was a picture taken.

Should he be moved to an inactive post?

It's a storm in a teacup, and 3 offices being transferred for a mild transgression that in hindsight wasn't a good idea, is over the top.

One minute the police are being told be friendly, smile more, show compassion. Then told, be strict, be serious, nab everyone for every little thing. There worse things to worry about. This is a small issue.
