Thai man shows "jai yen yen" with a "tuu yen" on a motorbike

Thai Rath explained what happened when a Thai guy won a substantial fridge in a Red Cross raffle.

He didn't have a pick-up to transport it but Pramote Bunta decided not to panic and took his prize home on a motorcycle.

Pictures seemed to show that he reached home safely without becoming the latest road casualty.

Pramote said while others bought hundreds of baht worth of tickets he just bought one for 20 baht and got lucky.

Thai social media was full of good cheer and comment.

He won the fridge, had good luck and he needed it. Leave the guy alone. My wife wants the tag numbers off his bike to buy the lottery. :w00t:

They are not wearing helmets ! :giggle:

Hey, his tail-light actually works!

Cool

And there we have it...a clear and concise explanation as to why Thailand ranks so high when it comes to road accident deaths.

Celebrate stupidity and ignore the rules.

Well, at least the Red Cross would have been at hand if...well you know. If that's what the Red Cross has in mind to help in road safety...oh shucks!

Fun story. No need to harp on anything as it's not like it is being transported during rush hour or in the middle of a hugely populated city or town.

I didn’t say traffic rules.

However I would imagine that this man’s actions would constitute a danger to others as using that bike in the manner is not safe.

However that will never change as long as there are those willing to defend such stupidity.

You sound like a barrel of laughs, like a retired civil servant.

Some of us like the freedom to break rules.

Thank you very much for the clarification. Would you care to specify what rules, citing the name and the section of the relevant law or regulation?

In the meantime, I have found the section of the traffic law being violated:

Quote

Section 122.

The motorcycle driver and passenger must wear crash

helmets for safeguarding while driving and traveling.

No motorcycle driver under paragraph one shall drive the motorcycle

while the passenger does not wear safeguarding crash helmet.

...

Even ones like this?

What that man did was stupid.

I’m not saying he deserves punishment for what he did, but don’t tell his actions were not dangerous, stupid and could have ended badly.

Treating it as a “fluffy bunny” story ignores this.

What this man did was dangerous and stupid. It is not how a motorbike should be used. As long as actions like this are condoned and defended the death rates on the roads will not improve.

Freezer a jolly good fella.

But there are a few at Thai Visa who want let us forget that he broke the law. I would ask that Thais should be left alone to do their thing, yes sometimes dangerous and deadly but you know what they have been doing this stuff for a long time and the system works for them. How about all of the farangs who want Thailand to be just like home take a deep breath, worry about yourself and let Thais take care of their own lives.

Until our car ends up wearing 2 blokes and a fridge!

The rule breaking is great until it's your friend, partner or child that is injured or killed by someone acting irresponsibly. That's why the rules are there and enforced in most civilised countries. Easy Rider is very old behaviour.

Well, too many rules have a negative side too, people need some freedom to enjoy life.

Of course i would see it differently if a loved one is a victim of some irresponsible behaviour, but for the moment i prefer the freedom of a "uncivilised " country.

Maybe the helmet law. Probably nothing else.

This is exactly what everyone loves about Thailand. Even the biggest majority of the Thai love it! I can,t even imagine hearing a Thai saying: "OH MY!, we need to stop that!". It is the stuffed up people on every such like matter that are dragging this country down. Stupidity is wanting the country to change to something it's not. I didn't come to live in Singapore or another such like place.

Well put! We have the right to belly ache about our own countries and what our own people do. Missionaries do exactly that, change for the worst.

The Daily Mail put the video on it's site and now the vibrant, university city of Sisaket will be internationally known for reckless driving.    That is the true tragedy of this story.

Then if we care so much then we need to go live in a civilized country and stop trying to change this one to one's fancy.

Road Traffic Act B.E. 2522 (1979) en

Section 15: The goods over extended the vehicle, sticking out on the sides. Whether the .  goods transported extend from the back of the vehicle or from the sides, the intent is the same.

Section 20:  Load not secured appropriately.

Section 122: Not wearing helmets

3 Violations,  and a sponsor that should be ashamed of itself for  promoting an irresponsible and unsafe act. The Red Cross local officials should be reprimanded for  the organization of this event. It was irresponsible to provide the prize in this manner. I can't wait for one of the RC folks to launch into one of their long winded  justifications for an increased handout  and I can show them this article. Are they running a lottery or carrying out a strict mandate on the promotion/support of health services? RC directors  seem to have no clue what happens at the local level. Not acceptable and violates international guidelines on responsibility. Someone's head should roll on this, seriously.

No, it is what  social deviants from farang like about Thailand. I can assure you that such behaviour is the cause of embarrassment and  annoyance with educated  and professional Thais.  You want Thailand to remain backward so you can more easily survive. Too bad, Thailand is moving forward, and hopefully it will  one day introduce the same strict screening of tourists and residents as they do in farangland and thereby keep out marginal farangs who want to hold the country back.

Perhaps you have never met them, but a large portion of the population is every  bit as responsible and caring as people from the west. Unfortunately, Thailand still has a large number of uneducated  and selfish people who don't know any better. It is hoever changing for the better. Every day is a step forward on a long journey. Your argument is why some industrial manufacturers still dump their toxic waste wherever they want, why some food processors break the rules with their use of  illegal additives and violation of food safety procedures.

Bad guys out, good guys in. I support the government policy and your statement is another reason why I do.
