Maybe the helmet law. Probably nothing else.

The international law of common sense gets broken thousands of times a day...

Probably also exceeded  the manufacturers payload  guidelines on a scooter......

Section 15: The goods over extended the vehicle, sticking out on the sides. Whether the .  goods transported extend from the back of the vehicle or from the sides, the intent is the same.

Section 20:  Load not secured appropriately.

Section 122: Not wearing helmets

3 Violations,  and a sponsor that should be ashamed of itself for  promoting an irresponsible and unsafe act. The Red Cross local officials should be reprimanded for  the organization of this event. It was irresponsible to provide the prize in this manner. I can't wait for one of the RC folks to launch into one of their long winded  justifications for an increased handout  and I can show them this article. Are they running a lottery or carrying out a strict mandate on the promotion/support of health services? RC directors  seem to have no clue what happens at the local level. Not acceptable and violates international guidelines on responsibility. Someone's head should roll on this, seriously.

Doesn't apply to motorcycles. But in any case it is not higher than not allowed. 1.0 It does not extend out on the sides more far than the handle bars and 1.1 the driver still has access of unobstructed view using the mirrors, and 1.2 load is in the middle, and 1.3 it is secured being held onto very tight.

Yes you are correct. 1.4 No helmets. 1.5 You need to go live in a bubble.

This is exactly what everyone loves about Thailand. Even the biggest majority of the Thai love it! I can,t even imagine hearing a Thai saying: "OH MY!, we need to stop that!". It is the stuffed up people on every such like matter that are dragging this country down. Stupidity is wanting the country to change to something it's not. I didn't come to live in Singapore or another such like place.

My point proved

No, it is what  social deviants from farang like about Thailand. I can assure you that such behaviour is the cause of embarrassment and  annoyance with educated  and professional Thais.  You want Thailand to remain backward so you can more easily survive. Too bad, Thailand is moving forward, and hopefully it will  one day introduce the same strict screening of tourists and residents as they do in farangland and thereby keep out marginal farangs who want to hold the country back.

Perhaps you have never met them, but a large portion of the population is every  bit as responsible and caring as people from the west. Unfortunately, Thailand still has a large number of uneducated  and selfish people who don't know any better. It is hoever changing for the better. Every day is a step forward on a long journey. Your argument is why some industrial manufacturers still dump their toxic waste wherever they want, why some food processors break the rules with their use of  illegal additives and violation of food safety procedures.

Bad guys out, good guys in. I support the government policy and your statement is another reason why I do.

Sorry Charlie. I qualify 10 times above the average needed to stay here. Given that, also have lived in the country - Bangkok - North over 24 years. I assure you it is not and embarrassment or annoyance to educated and professional Thai. Laughed at. And yes I do hang out with so many of Thai educated professionals at many different times. I have a lot of friends who are large business owners. Factory. Funny7 about this forum though, is that it is same divided like the Thai people, except you are in the minority.

And there we have it...a clear and concise explanation as to why Thailand ranks so high when it comes to road accident deaths.

Celebrate stupidity and ignore the rules.

The thing is, though, that this one incident (in which nothing adverse happened) does not explain why Thailand ranks so high.  It does explain that he could have been one more victim, but he wasn't.

The attitude towards road safety it displays does help explain the high death rate on Thailand's roads.

The rule breaking is great until it's your friend, partner or child that is injured or killed by someone acting irresponsibly. That's why the rules are there and enforced in most civilised countries. Easy Rider is very old behaviour.

Can you give an example of a civilized country?

You must be joking... You obviously haven't been to Farangland. When I go there, I see a lot of marginal, uneducated, unskilled foreigners living there. This leads me to believe that the screening you speak of isn't really that strict or successful.

No, you're misunderstanding, it doesn't.

I don't understand why some people are branding Thailand as "uncivilised"

If you don't like, why do you live here, i am sure there are many " civilised" country to live in.

If you like to live here, stop moaning and get a life, your moaning is not doing any good, especially for yourself.

I disagree.

In Vietnam they also move fridges by motorbike

How does that irrelevant remark relate to the Red Cross in the OP?

That's fine.

Some of us like the freedom to break rules.

I.e. being a liability to society.
