Let the legal process take its course in regard to outsider PM, says Prayut

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday said he would let the stipulated legal process take its course in regard to possible nominations for an outsider PM following the next general election.

 

Prayut had earlier remained non-committal on whether or not he would take up such a position after the national poll, prompting speculation over him seeking to cling on to power.

 

The process would depend on what the organic laws say, and people should not be overly worried about it, he said on Tuesday.

 

People have singled him out and are focusing on him without looking around for whether there are other people who would also be competent, he added. 

 

The premier said he would therefore urge people not to link him with the matter, but rather lend support to those persons who volunteer to serve the country in the future, and to be selective when voting.

 

He declined to comment on whether an outsider PM’s work would go smoothly, stressing that he would rather focus on what happens today. 

 

Prayut also urged people to help by considering whether what his government had been doing should be continued in the future.

 

He said that today he was a person of the people, and could do everything they wished him to. 

 

The PM earlier announced that he was no longer a soldier, but a former soldier who had now turned himself into a politician – a statement which suggested to many that he was now preparing himself to formally enter politics.

We will just mod the legal process to make sure it takes the course we want.

How about answering important questions and not treating people with sheer contempt by putting up a cardboard cut out. How about firing Prawit for being completely obtuse and obnoxious in the face of a serious matter (corruption) that holds the whole country back. I could go on.

 

Oh, and when you have absolute power, the law doesn't apply to you. That's the whole point of having absolute power. 

Exactly what "legal process" is the man who took over the country without an election referring to?

As I recall the military dictator Suchinda was also angling to be appointed an outsider Prime Minister.That worked out well.

It would be a certain irony if the larger political parties got together to ensure that Prayut was not made PM following the next election.

His desperation reeks, and emanates from every pore of his small frame, on a daily basis. He wants to hold onto power so bad, he cannot hide it. 

"No longer a soldier" then why was he shown yesterday along with his cardboard cut-out wearing military gear?

Yer... because he doesn’t need votes to remain in power, but votes will reveal persons who need AA

Easy to let the legal process take it's course when you have gamed the law and the entire process in your favour, while at the same tume excluding all competition.

If the Thai people give up the right to elect their leaders they will be in for a very rough ride and unfortunately will deserve what they get. Even if you have a good person the first time or two eventually the wrong one will get into office without anyway to be removed...and if there is a way they will be in a position to change it to an ineffective method. This thought is so seriously flawed it is frightening.

Many people are that competent! Just ask them.

Just waiting for him to test the waters regarding what really makes a politician...and election.

The man must be levitating in his own bubble of corrupted air to make such kind of declaration, totally intoxicated by his own hunger for power!

Please tell us Mr PM 'general-no-more-now-politician' which 'legal process taking its course' could, validly, ...'democratically', after a fair and free(?) general election, possibly make a PM out of you?

A dictator 'ruling' (only) because of a military coup (he executed), can-not become the PM of anything else than a banana-third-world country!

But, hey, maybe that's all you and your big brass aeropage want, the easiest way to fill your pockets further in the (long term) future.

Never mind it were the promises of 'changes and reforms' which brought you the support of a majority (IMO) of the people, now, why would you care about the people, you have (nearly) total power, you love it, you don't want to give away any bit of it, and as you seem(?) to have the military, police and officialdom in your pocket...
