to and from the airport does it really make any difference which color taxi one takes?  ive always used the yellow and green ones and sometimes the pink ones. but i had a good experience with the green one the other day. does it make any difference to wait for a certain color? also. sometimes im tempted not to take the toll road or "highway"  which hours would it be safe to do so............and finally , going to the domestic airport don mueang...........ive had nasty traffic issues en route to the airport. which hours are to be careful about this ?  thanks

an ex gf's dad owned some taxis and she told me, as i remember, yellow and green ones are owner operated and other colours are rented. not sure if this is right or not.

i usually flag down ones that are not too old or souped up

just never take a taxi that is hanging around or who approaches you.

There are good and (a few) bad taxis of all colors.  If free to choose, look for a taxi with the green GrabTaxi sign on the side window. I have never had a bad experience with one of those.

using the toll road (don mueang tollway) is the best way to get to DMK.  that avoids the traffic, unless there is an accident on the tollway.  the tollway exit takes you right into DMK.  depending where you access the toll road, the fee is 50+70thb (120thb) or 70thb.  it usually takes me more time to get to the tollway (15 to 25 min) than it does to get to DMK once i'm on the tollway (15 min).

to get to suvarnabhumi w/o using the toll road is best late at night.  after 10pm.  of course it depends where you are staying.  i arrive late at night most of the time so i always take the regular road to get into the city.  but i rarely take the regular road to get to BKK airport.  take the airport link or the toll road (there are two toll roads you can take, depends where you are staying).

i thought the thai mafia restricted grab or uber. in ho chi mihn . grab motorbikes and uber motorbikes are everywhere. when will Bangkok get the cue?  taxis pretty cheap here so i dont see need for uber taxis?  note. ive had nasty traffic issues gettting to don mueng during the 9 am time period. be early........

Try booking one of the light green cabs. Drivers are decently dressed and always use the metre plus the cabs are very well kept. Used them loads of times and never a problem.

the morning rush hour in bangkok can often clog the roads into and out of bangkok, unlike some cities where traffic is heavy going in the morning and going out in the evening.  you won't have a traffic problem if you use the don mueang tollway in the morning.  when i arrive at DMK airport, i almost always take a taxi to a BTS or MRT station and use that to get into inner bangkok.  that can be tough if you have alot of luggage but it avoids most of the traffic.

Yes

I can confirm that. Actually, I have never used the taxi queue downstairs. By going to the departures level, I can select the taxi of my choice and never have to wait.

If they agree to use the meter.

If they actually accept your desired destination.

But if you are successful, they might even be clean, fitted with seat belts, and the driver might be able to understand where you want to go and how to get there.

if going TO the airport, you can always book an ALL THAI TAXI  in advance

I really like All Thai Taxi and have tried to book them when I can. They also have an app for your phone. Problem is, there are not enough of them and even phoning them the night before an airport trip, I had about 50% success.

Nonsense, taxi service in Bangkok is good and cheap.

Cheap, yes, but I think many here would debate "good".

Compare it to anywhere, and the Bangkok service can stand up to anywhere.

Compare Bangkok taxis to taxi services anywhere? Seriously?

OK, for similarly large cities nearby, how about Hong Kong or Singapore?

In both those cities, my destination is never refused, they always use the meter without asking, and they are all clean, well-serviced and fitted with seat belts.

Yes, to anywhere.

Some TVF readers though complain about anything.

Well to please and cool you down a bit, obviously,  if the customer looks like a broke Cheap Charlie,  the Thai taxis or tuk tuk cowboys, may feel sorry and perhaps offer good and cheap service.

That is true, I recently talked to a ATT driver and asked how many are on the streets of BKK, and there are only 200 cabs as of now, so getting one is like a lottery win
