Popular Post paddy
Hi All, As promised I'd give a quick report after applying for my 1 year Non Imm O Milti in HCMC. It was very straightforward and the staff are very polite, professional and efficient. I flew in and went straight to the Consulate in District 1, they open at 8.30 am so I was there at that time. I presented the following: 1. My Passport and signed copy of same 2. Visa Application Form which I got from their website - v simple as it's electronic so you can fill it out online and then print and sign. 3. Letter from my wife requesting the Consulate issue me with a Non Imm O Multi for purpose of visiting / staying with my wife & family- v basic with just the usual details like my passport number and her details etc 4. Marriage Cert (mine is European so I had a copy and a certified / translated copy - signed by both of us). I also had the original but wasn't even looked at. 5 A copy of the Marriage document that I got from the Amphur when I registered the foreign marriage a few years back - signed by the wife 6. A copy of my wifes house book and ID card signed by her 7. Cash of 200 USD for the fee - note they don't take any other currency not even THB or Dong * There was no request to show funds of any sort nor was there any questions at all about money - even though I had bank books in case. I arrived at 8.30 am and despite the small room being quite full of backpackers / tourist applications I was out in less then 5 minutes with a receipt and told to come back tomorrow not earlier then 1.30 pm I stayed in District 1 which is a great part of the city and returned to the Consulate the next day at exactly 1.30 pm. There was a small queue inside the steel gate on the entrance to the main room so I had to wait outside for about 5 mins, then the as the queue quickly moved on he let me in - I handed in my receipt and was given my passport back with my shiny new Non Imm O Multi - I was in and out in less then 10 Minutes I'd say. Walked outside and immediately was able to pick from a number of taxis to the airport for my flight at 5.30pm - was back in Bangkok at 7 pm so all together a big thumbs up from me for HCMC. It's a little more expensive then Savanakhet but not really by much when you take how difficult it is to get to Savanakhet. Flights with VietJet were approx 4,800 THB (cheaper if you want to fly from Don Muang but I wanted Suvarnabhumi) , hotel was 950 THB for great location with everything you need , Visa was approx 6.,300 THB, Taxis were about 800 hundred Baht all together. The only additional cost is the Visa for VN which I got online so more expensive but very easy and takes a lot of the hassle out of it. Some nationalities obviously don't need a visa so can save on that cost. I'd say it cost me all in approx 17k - 18k THB. The only other difference is they wrote on the remarks section of the visa the purpose of the Visa - Thai wife and her name which I never seen before on any of my previous visas but it wasn't even looked at when coming back in by Immigration. Anyway hope that may help someone considering it - I definitely recommend HCMC and I will be going back there. Paddy 6
Popular Post bkkandy1308
I'd like to second the above post. I arrived back from HCMC yesterday evening. Smooth, simple and very polite, and I provided exactly the same documents as the OP. The Single Entry is US$ 80 - same as elsewhere. I opted to stay two nights and found a nice hotel in District 1 for less than US$ 30 a night, but as the OP suggested it can be done with just one night in HCMC. If you can plan further in advance you can get Vietjet flights, with carry on only, for around THB 4,000. Once again, no financial requirements need to be shown and, like the OP, the name of my wife was written on the Visa. My last Non-B from Hanoi also had the name of the company on it, just FYI. unblocktheplanet
Is the OP saying he got a one-year extension based on Thai spouse?
Denim
Thanks for the heads up, useful to know. I usual go to Savannah with the wife and make a holiday of it over 4 nights and 5 days , driving from Petchabun. Costs about 15,000 baht but that if for two people in own car and not hurrying. The OP went to Ho Chi Minh City Thai consulate to get a one year multiple entry Non O visa based on having a Thai spouse. Such a visa allows unlimited 90-day visits to Thailand for one year from the date of issue. If you wish to stay longer than 90 days on any particular visit, you must apply for an extension of stay. (This you must do at an immigration office inside Thailand, as consulates do not issue extensions.) Those using multiple entry Non O visas tend to do border bounces every 90 days rather than using extensions of permission to stay.
anon789561
"3. Letter from my wife requesting the Consulate issue me with a Non Imm O Multi for purpose of visiting / staying with my wife & family- v basic with just the usual details like my passport number and her details etc" does anyone know if this is an actual requirement, i know it makes little odds as easy to do but whenever I have had Non O's in the past from London or Savannket I have never provided or been asked for a letter from my wife. Or is this something unique to HCMC?

Nobody has been told it was not needed. It appears on other embassy and consulate websites but they often do not ask for it.

On any 90 day entry you can get a 60 day extension at your local Imm' for 1900 baht. Means you can have 5 months before you need to do an out/in for next 90 days. Do another 60 day so getting 10 months-ish with one out/in in the middle.

The visa-cost is higher in HCMC (you pay $200 USD, vs 5000 Baht ($~160 USD). Travel cost per-each depends on point-of-origin, mode of transport, specials, etc. Nightlife much better in HCMC. Both are next-day service - submit morning day 1, collect afternoon day 2. HCMC just requires the wife write a short letter, in addition to the same requirements for Savannakhet. How about a converted entry? IE A tourist visa or Visa exempt that has been converted to a Non-Imm-O entry in Thailand, I know you get 90 days (and should get on with making an Extension in the last 30, ) but can a further 60 be had first? You could probably do it but would have to explain why. Not many reasons for not doing the extension since you would of already had to meet the financial requirements when you applied for the visa. Maybe if someone had dipped into their 800k baht in the first month or so.
