By The Nation

An elderly mother was founded murdered and her adult son hanged in the compound of their house in Songkhla 's Sadao district on Thursday morning, police said.

Neighbours did not hear any noise from the house after hearing the mother and son quarrel on Tuesday morning. When they checked in on the pair, they found the bodies and alerted police.

Police went to the house in Moo 2 village in Tambon Phang La of Sadao and found the body of Amui Sermsakulchart, 73, lying in front of a latex processing building in her house's compound. Her body showed signs that she had been hit in the face with a hard object.

Her son, Somchai Sermsakulchart, 43, who was described as mentally disabled, was found hanged inside the processing building.

Police said they suspected that Somchai had killed his mother during a quarrel and then hanged himself.

Both bodies were sent for autopsies at Sadao Hospital.
