Manager reported that a road along the beaches in Chumpon complete with bicycle lanes would be open by February.

The Department of Rural Roads were now putting the finishing touches to an 8 kilometer stretch from Route 3201 in the direction of Pathew.

The 83 million baht project is part of the government's plans to promote tourism in the upper south in the provinces of Prajuab Khirikhan, Chumpon and Ranong, said Manager.

This road will have bicycle lanes 1.5 and 2 meters wide, a new bridge and viewing area.

I would not ride a bike next to the road here unless I shielded by a concrete tunnel.

Those bicycle lanes will be occupied by food stalls, fake-items kiosks an parked cars within hours....

The locals will be grateful for the new car park and the new market area

83 million baht for 8 kilometers ???????

The dangers of cycling in Thailand's inattentive traffic appear to remain as cyclists are not separated from the faster moving traffic by anything more than a couple of white lines.

What's the difference between a bicycle lane, and motorcycle lane, a lane where cars drive 1 kilometer before merging into traffic, and a vehicle parking place?  Imho, not a thing.

83 million THB. Some people made out well on that deal.

I'm coming to Chumpon end of Feb with my MTB, any suggestions of places to ride singletrack or quiet dirt or paved roads?
