CHIANG MAI, 29 January 2018 (NNT) - The wildfire and haze prevention center in Chiang Mai convened a meeting in preparation for a wildfire drill which will take place on January 30th.

The director of the center, Lt Gen Sompong Jangjamrat, attended a meeting where he was joined by local authorities and those from the 3rd Army Area. The meeting aimed to prepare related officers for the upcoming wildfire drill on Tuesday at the 7th Infantry Division in Mae Rim district.

The drill, which will be presided over by Third Army Region Commander Lt Gen Wijak Siribansop, will ready firefighters in the event of an emergency.

The Royal Thai Army (RTA) will provide MI-17 and airbus helicopters to assist firefighting operations. Both helicopters are equipped with Bambi Buckets which can store up to 5,000 liters of water.

With the RTA’s support, firefighters can be airlifted and dropped safely on the mountain and where there is a forest fire.

They can "drill" all they like but have zero experience...rather like the rest of the army, air force and navy.

Thank goodness for the RTA, we shall have clear air this spring!!!!!!!!!
