A “Cancer Knockout” insurance policy for special cancer protection is being offered by FWD Life Insurance Public Co Ltd, according to a company press release on Thursday.

The insurance product will include not only comprehensive coverage against all stages and types of cancer, but also will offer benefits on life protection, first diagnosis of early-stage cancer, and advance-stage cancer. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy recovery benefits will also be included with maximum payout of Bt1.2 million for advance-stage cancer.

This special product package “Cancer Knockout” is designed for customers aged 16-65 years old who are concerned about cancer. However, Cancer Knockout will exclude coverage in two cases: cancer in HIV patients and pre-cancerous tumours. This product is only available from February 1 - May 31, 2018.

In the brochure there is pricing....see snapshot below....first column heading is Age....Second heading for a Female....Third heading for a Male.  Assuming these are annual premiums.  Coverage thru 65 years of age only best I can figure out.   And I think some of the fine print says if you have smoked then different premiums/coverage is different.

Considerably cheaper for males than females. Sounds strange to me.

Anyways, if coverage only through 65 imo not attractive.

Not strange since females have breast cancer to worry above.   Breast cancer can occur in men but is rare...like around 1% of all breast cancer.

Men have prostate cancer, but with number of smokers I would think men have much higher risk than female. Would be offset I presume by the different premium/coverage for (ex)smokers.

But since I would presume the company knows the risks better than I do I think I am wrong.

Breast cancer cures and doing better than prostrate because for some reason more money is spent on breast cancer than prostrate cancer. Actually nothing is being spent. What you get for prostrate cancer is a catheter, pelvic floor exercises, and chemical castration. That's about it.  Chemo is corrosive and causes more cancer the rest is abatement that does work and something which often antagonizes the cancer into creating mutant clone cells to make it seem dormant. (Personal experience)

Re treatment for prostate cancer, was your personal experience in Thailand? And is this form of what sounds like non-treatment particular to LOS or pretty much rule of thumb everywhere?

I am aware that the medical establishment's attitudes to prostate cancer have been changing rapidly in recent years, along with diagnosis and testing regimes and recommended treatment - one suspects for cost reasons as much as anything else in countries with state-funded healthcare schemes.

That was the cost of my Stage 2 cancer operation (bladder removal) alone - if there had been a need for follow up cancer treatment (as often would be the case with advanced-stage cancer) holder would likely be very disappointed.  Cancer can be extremely expensive so would hope that 1.2 million limit is per event rather than total payout, as even for event it could easily be exceeded.  Not covering pre-cancerous tumors also an issue for many people and probably not helping your odds of being cancer free after age 65.
