webfact
Gen Prawit signs ASEAN Defense Ministers declaration for cooperation against terrorism BANGKOK, 8th February 2018 (NNT) – ASEAN Defense Ministers have jointly declared the intention to combat regional terrorism, confirming the need for unity in ASEAN. Defense Ministry Spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanich has revealed that at an unofficial meeting of ASEAN Defense Ministers in Singapore between February 5 and 7, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Gen Prawit Wongsuwan joined in talks on combatting terrorism, unexpected incidents at sea and approaches to the threats of nuclear weapons, bio weapons and chemical weapons. He co-signed a declaration that ASEAN must remain united and with friendly ties to address such issues as regional terrorism. All the ministers agreed to build up cooperation both within and beyond the region to immunize ASEAN from terrorism. Gen Prawit also engaged in a multilateral discussion with his counterparts from Indonesia, Singapore and China to bolster military ties. -- nnt 2018-02-

alant
Confused with this, it was an unofficial meeting??? So does any declaration count for anything even one that says as little as we must be united and friends. Than there is the discussions with China, at an ASEAN meeting? In fact I look forward to the Thai military lending troop support there as well - then the Thai military can experience fighting a real organized and weaponized insurgency. That might cause the RTM to rethink its lack of interest in resolving Thailand's own insurgency.
