Malaysian foreman found dead in ship

By The Nation

A Malaysian foreman was found dead in his locked room aboard a Malaysian ship carrying ore docked in Nakhon Si Thammarat province on Friday night in what was believed to be a case of suicide.

Police said the body of the man, 42, was found in the room when the Everline 3 ship, registered in Malaysia, docked at the pier in Tambon Tha Sala in Tha Sala district.

The man had a big cut on his stomach. A 30-cm-long knife was found near the body along with a hand-written suicide letter in English. The letter complained about his chronic health problems. A doctor inspecting the scene believed he had died more than eight hours before he was found.

Other workers said the ship had docked at the port on Thursday morning and the foreman’s room was locked since then.

The workers detected a stench on Friday morning and when the foreman did not answer knocks on the door they decided to alert police.
