Internet Via Mobile - Better Option?

Featured Replies

I purchase the Internet monthly subscription for my iPhone.  When I am out and about like a coffee shop. I often

connect my laptop through it as the free WIFI out there can be terrible.  I use DTAC and it was working great but

over the last couple of months it keeps on dropping.  I have tried several different DTAC packages from cheap to pricey but

the drop continues.  I have often have to reboot the phone or disable the carrier and re enable it to get it to pick up DTAC again.

I know Internet isn't fantastic here in the Land Of Smiles  but perhaps it is time to change carriers.  I never had luck with 12 Call in the past but like to hear

others on what they use and experiences such as True or any others out there

Thanks all

What type of phone are you using?  I'd try testing Internet Connectivity using a different SIM (trying DTAC, AIS, TRUE service) and see if you get the same disconnect issue ...if so then it's just likely a phone firmware issue.

You may want to look at getting a dedicated 3G/4G/LTE Pocket WiFi device (see dtac, AIS, TrueMove offerings) that can share its Mobile Internet connection with 5-8 WiFi devices.

Then, potentially, you could use it with any mobile carrier you like (so long as the radio specs match the mobile provider specs you want it to work with).

I don't know a lot about these things but one thing I tried was TPLink. When I left that condo I never plugged it in again. I also tried the TRUE dongle thingy. It started out great for about the one week and was almost useless after that. Never plugged that in again either?

Before spending out on other packages it might just be worth getting your phone checked for possible hardware failure or malware.

The Wife's DTAC package is working well and she is not experiencing any connection issues.

I've used DTAC as a back-up hotspot for years, connecting my cheap Chinese android phone to my MBP when the building wifi goes down. It occasionally slows up somewhat but I've never had it drop out entirely for more than a minute or two. As others say, put your SIM in another phone and try it, it could be the iPhone has a conflict somewhere.

Using AIS since ages.

Regularly driving 100 km to Khon Kaen, one or two out of nowhere areas without coverage for a minute or so (listening to internet radio).

Monday drove 120 km to Udon, one area in the hills over Nong Bua Lampu without coverage for a few minutes.

No idea about Chiang Mai.

Is it about the city area?

I pay 98 baht a week for AIS never use WIFI. Works well on my Huawei mobile.

I guess this is some small bandwidth package then?

The OP didn't state what DTAC package he has subscribed to?

At present Line mobile have specials on internet packages that beats everyone on costs, did the 10 g 4g plus 200 free call minutes, unlimited sms and free line tv for B 220 per month, no contract. As they dont have their own network they use other mobile phone service providers networks. I put my tablet on one of their packages and so far so good, even in the sticks.
