Nongprue cop, 2 others jailed for rape, kidnapping, extortion

PATTAYA:--A Nongprue police officer and two civilians were arrested for allegedly kidnapping, raping and extorting a Nakhon Phanom woman they tried to frame for drugs.

Pol. Lance Cpl. Ratchanon Dannattee, a Nongprue crime-suppression squad leader, along with Poldanai Dhammakul, 21, and Prasert Kongkhao, 31, surrendered to Pattaya police, who were brought in to investigate their sister station, Feb. 5.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit false imprisonment, rape and extortion. All denied the charges. However, Ratchanon later claimed he had consensual sexual relations with the 22-year-old victim, police said.

All three were denied bail. An order also was sent to the head of Chonburi police seeking Ratchanon’s dismissal from the Royal Thai Police.

The victim claims she was in her Soi Bongkot apartment when Ratchanon and his two accomplices broke in and planted drugs. She said the Nongprue officer then told her she would be arrested if she did not pay him an unspecified amount of cash.

Rotten to the core!!

Agree, the whole lot. Nothing but total and complete reform is acceptable.

And where are their supervisors? Part of the role of their seniors is force management, which includes monitoring the activities of the juniors against their assigned tasks and ensure there is evidence of performance against their reason for existence.

Where is it?

Unspecified amount... why unspecified?

That is so scary. I know it's happened in many areas before, especially in heavy tourist traffic areas, but still it's a frightening thing, especially for Thai women. If convicted, this piece of filth should be absolutely hammered by the presiding judge.

At the very least a transfer is in order.

Yes!  A transfer to the Bangkok Hilton!  But, don't hold your breath.

The cop acting under the "Royal Thai police" force, with the accent on "royal" should be judged accordingly and put in jail for years, not just being moved to an inactive post.  And this counts for all the others that are on "inactive posts", as well for the corruptive lawyers.   It's the only way to change their mentality.

Well  ....the dirty cop has nothing to worry about other than moving. He'll just be transferred and everything is fine. Thai justice.

They didn't decide who gets what yet.

Another episode of the never ending reality show:

Their superiors are just the same.  In the Thai police you buy yourself promotion (got an uncle in law who has done that twice that I know of) and how do you think they get the money to do that.  Rotten to the core means just that.  But there are levels of rottenness.  Some turn a blind eye and some are deeply involved.

Let's not lose sight that this is Thailand and western morals and ethics don't always apply.

Not all cops are like this, some are helpful and do a good job. But if 30% are corrupted and are ready to plant drugs we have a problem.

Nothing New as it has happened before and it will most problably happen again - but sometimes the police bully the wrong man which they seems to have done when it comes to the wll known Pattaya icon and original Tim Sharky...

By no means should the alleged behavior of the accused be excused - if it's true they're despicable scumbags - but rest assured the victim is likely not an innocent bystander.  These sort of activities by the police are commonly seen as  payback against a particularly uncooperative drug user or double crossing informant.  The threat is always, "Oh, you don't have any yabaa/ice on you right now?  So how much do you want?" If the target is known to be a prostitute, rape may be on the to-do list as her credibility is nil anyhow.

Sure and a big part of the result is that the folks at the top are not only unethical, they are also incapable and disinterested.

Can't get much worse than that!
