It was just a rhetorical question. Obviously some people don't love dogs and in some cultures (such as Islamic) dogs are seen as very very filthy and low. But it's fair to say many more people love dogs than snakes and rats.

Our new graduate keeps reptiles.  That was one of the reasons he got the job.

Snakes like rats.

It might be worth ending a rhetorical question with an exclamation mark.

For those that prefer rats to dogs, you're in luck!

Even though this is the year of the dog, TODAY the 18th is the day of the rat.

February 18th: Day of the Rat

According to folktales, this is the day that rats marry.

...

People will leave some grains and crackers in corners to share their harvest with the rats. They will then go to sleep early in order to not disturb the “wedding.” This way, the rats will not disturb them during the year either.
