23 tourists stung by bluebottle jellyfish at Songkhla beaches

Twenty-three tourists were stung by bluebottle jellyfish at two popular beaches in Songkhla during the past three days, a senior public health official said on Tuesday.
 

Doctor Uthitsak Hariratanakul, chief Songkhla public health officer, said the 23 swimmers were injured by the jellyfish at the Chalathat and Samila beaches between Saturday and Monday.

 

Most of the tourists suffered skin burns but one Also suffered breathing difficulties, Uthitsak added.

 

He said tourists who want to swim at the beaches should be cautious.

Are there notices posted warning of the danger so that tourists know to be careful?

Does anyone have details on the dangerous and non dangerous Jellyfish in Thai waters? I was at Bang Saphan this weekend and there were loads of small Jellyfish floating around (10cm diameter), some transparent, others with brown and yellow spots. Whenever I search the net I only find information on box and Man-of-war.

NEWS FLASH! for the "tourist" the blue bottle jelly fish will go where ever he wants! it's his ocean! if you can't see him coming get ready to get stung! maybe the TOT will figure a way to give the blue bottle a ticket!

Don't be daft, this is Thailand not some namby-pamby nanny state that requires stickers to warn that a kettle gets hot!

What ever happened to people using their eyes and plain common sense.

Complete foolishness. Lets remove all warning signs of sny kind of danger then. What need for road signs warning of dangerous curves? Why post about dangerous riptides?

Everybody should just automatically and magically be aware of every hazard according to your logic.
