DTAC or Truemove H, you can extend validity for 2 baht for every month. up to 365 days validity each time.

Though with DTAC you need to have either utilised a balance of 200 baht prior or had the SIM for 90 days before you can make use of that service.

Don't know if it's the same with Truemove H

AIS you topup with 20bht in a machine outside for each month, up to 1 year would need 12 transactions of 20bht.

can't you top up with 10 baht each time + 2 baht commission?  That would be 12 transactions of 12 baht, a significant savings of around 40%!

Last time I went in the shop they said NO, 20bht minimum. Not that I care about 8bht.

I get the NetMarathon SIM, 600bht for 6months internet access (@1MB), plus 20bht x6 for validity.

Cheapest mobile internet ever!

That's because you went into a shop. He talked about machines.

Just get an AIS card.  Top up at machines everywhere.

Why only AIS?? Is it the cheapest SIM?

Both DTAC and Truemove H sell SIM for 19 baht.

Of course one can, with any network's SIM, not just AIS.

But charge 300bht/month for internet.

AIS is 1/3 the price for internet.

Do what you like. AIS has better coverage.

You seem to have forgotten the topic...

Need SIM for mainly incoming calls on  separate phone. What is easiest & cheapest version/brand to keep SIM alive?  Thank you.

No data necessary, just a cheap SIM.

You seem to have forgotten you aren't the OP.

OP didn't specify exact usage, only 'mainly'.

Comparing just the phone prices,

DTaC 200bht usage then 2bht/month for validity = 224bht.

AIS 240bht credit paid in 20bht increments for validity = 240bht.

Not much in it as far as I can see, but having to use 200bht on DTaC before being able to buy more validity is a pain in the butt.

Mainly means mainly. No data usage mentioned at all.

"Separate phone to receive mainly incoming calls" doesn't shout to me, "need monthly internet package".

You were actually the one who mentioned an outside machine in another post, "AIS you topup with 20bht in a machine outside for each month".  Now you are talking about inside shops.  Outside machine and inside shop are not samesame, not even samesame but different!  This is apples and oranges.

I went IN the AIS shop with 100bht in 10bht coins, the young lady escorted me to the AIS machine outside the shop with 20bht x5 notes, and then proceeded to do it for me.

Erm...no.

That was just to illustrate an option of not having to go to machine to top up 10 or 20 baht to add validity.

Not convenient, especially if you are not in-country.

If you want to be a smartypants about it and insist that mobile Internet is included, you won't get much cheaper than the DTAC https://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/products/sim-go-plearn.html for 49 baht. Free Internet for the life of the SIM.

I think Truemove H has a similar offer.

Does AIS?

Go to an orange machine outside any 7-11 and elsewhere, push the english language button and it's self-explanatory to recharge any provider or other service as well.  I have no idea about the dedicated AIS machines which are supposedly outside which you refer to.  Can you post a picture?

That's an AIS machine, if such a thing exists. Orange machines and similar outside convenience shops allow 10 baht.

2 baht is the ATM method described above 3 baht is what True changes if you use their code...

Actually no. But I understand your confusion.

3 baht + VAT is the old service wherein you would call *9344 or some such to add a month of validity.

But now they have the same service as DTAC wherein you utilise a USSD code to add validity;

  • Press : * 934 * 30 # for 30 days extension.  Cost 2 Baht
  • Press : * 934 * 90 # for 90 days extension.  Cost 6 Baht
  • Press : * 934 * 180 # for 180 days extension.   Cost 12 Baht
  • Thanks 1

Outside the AIS store on the moat in Chiang Mai between CMRAM and Chang Puak (behind the green sign).

Takes notes only.
