*URGENT* Non-B & WP Cancellation

Featured Replies

Hi, I apologize for the URGENT word on the title as I badly need advice on this. Been spending some time reading posts about this but there seem to be conflicting answers so here's the situation and hopefully you guys can give me the proper advice.

Non-B Visa (obtained outside Thailand, no extension) will expire on Feb 25, 2018

Work Permit will expire on June 6, 2016

I already resigned and my last day was today, Feb 22, 2018. Since it's a pretty new company, the HR did not advice me about anything. I was left hanging and just figured out things online.

I was planning to exit to Myanmar (via border) on the 25th Feb and come back as a tourist.

QUESTIONS:
1. Can I leave Thailand on the 25th without canceling the Non-B and/or the WP?
2. If so, can I just cancel the WP upon return?

3. Will there be any issues on the border immigration upon exit and return?

4. What would be the less hassle legal way to do?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

Just go into the work permit office and ask the staff for the cancellation form. Very easy.

1) Yes

2) Yes

3) No

4) Best way already stated

Jeeeez. Such a relief. Thank you! Is my plan exiting via border in Myanmar okay? Or it's better to fly out?

And no need for termination letter as what the other responses at other threads says?

Edited by dracokedavro

Should not matter whether you fly or leave by land border.

Do not need letter as this is not an extension

How about canceling the WP upon return? Or can I just let it expire? Any challenges I might face?
I can just cancel it and they won't bother about my new tourist visa anymore?

If you want to get a new WP in the future better to cancel it officially. Not relevant to Visa status

Thank you very much for your responses. I'm taking your word for it since I can see you're a platinum member. This is such a relief. Cheers!

When and where are you going to get your tourist visa?

I'm getting it upon going back from Myanmar land border.

Enjoy the ride... many have gone out before the work permit ended, and all went well.  It all worked out coming in out a Tourist visa and then processing for other types...of visas..

Cheers mate on the pegs.

A 60 day tourist visa obtained at a Thai Consulate?  Or are you thinking a 'visa exempt' entry for 30 days is a tourist visa?

The 30 days 'visa exempt' entry.

It will cost you a visit to the police station and a 1500 baht fine if you don't cancel the world, then get another one later.

No need to cancel it, it's already run out. or is it a typo?

Once I got a year visa and WP.

I left the job after a month and kept the visa. Many told me, wrongly, I had to leave the country in 7 days but I knew the visa couldn't be cancelled. When I got a new job a year later, I had to go to the police station and pay a fine for not canceling the WP.

You're getting confused. Cancelling a work permit is a matter for the Employment Department, not the police.

Remember, the OP is still on a three month non-b, not a 1 year extension like you were.

Never head of this. I left my one job in 2001 and never did anything about the work permit neither did the employer. When I got another work permit later that year I didn't need to pay anything.    You are correct with a visa no need to go to immigration to cancel, if you were on an extension of stay then yes when employment ends so does the reason for the extension.

OP is you visa valid until the 25th or you permission to stay is valid until the 25th?  If your visa is valid until the 25th you can leave and re-enter on that visa and get another 90 days.

Visa is valid until the 25th. I never did an extension. It is the initial 90days Non-B visa from a consulate outside Thailand.

What do you mean I can exit on the 25th and re-enter and get 90-days on the same non-B visa? Please expound. Thank you.

He incorrectly assumed you had a multiple entry non-b visa. Since you have a single entry non-b visa you would not get another 90 days.

My employer must have contacted the MoL.

Just to confirm you had a three month non b visa from outside Thailand which hasn't been extended at immigration here for the year... You've left you job and went to Myanmar for tourist visa via land boarder ... Correct?

If so I am planning to do the same next week. Please let me know if you came across any issues coming back into Thailand as a tourist...

The Labor Department sends you to the Police Department to collect the fine.

This was for a late renewal,so I'm guessing it's the same for the above situation.

Hello everybody,

I literally just woke up from an all-day rest. (The van left 4:30am this morning and we got back to BKK ta around 2pm)

So as to my visa, it all went fine. No qiestions asked upon exit and same goes upon entry. I got a 30-day visa upon entry in Thailand via the Myanmar land border.

Another question though, do I need to cancel my WP right away? Or I can just let it expire? What violation is there for the police to ask for a fine?

  • 1 year later...

Of my work permit finished in April 31st, do I need to fill in a firm to cancel it, or just let it run out and apply for my new one?
