webfact
Police not sure evidence is strong enough to press bribery charge against Premchai By Thai PBS Anti-corruption police have admitted that the sound clip purportedly showing the Italian-Thai Development Plc boss Premchai Karnasuta trying to bribe Thung Yai Naresuan forest rangers might not be strong enough to press bribery charge against the alleged illegal hunter. Pol Col Watcharin Pusit, deputy commander of Anti-Corruption Command, said Tuesday that said that the sound in the clip was not the sound of Premchai, but of Mr Yong Dodkrua, one of the illegal hunting party. He said that the conversation in the audio clip which was recorded by Mr Piyapong Suebsen, one of the forest rangers who made the arrest of the hunting party, took place on February 5 after Premchai and the rest of his hunting party were arrested by forest rangers. lemonjelly
it’ll be dragged out until it’s no longer front page news, a token fine will be given if he’s found guilty of anything that happened so long ago the average Thai would not be that interested in anymore; just another page in the big book of the corrupt entitled buying there way around ineffective laws.... best leave it all dust covered on that high shelf.Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect
canopy
It was believed from the beginning it wasn't his voice. But why is this grounds to drop charges? Why does no one care that the other 3 are equally guilty and one of them should be charged with bribery? The media, forestry people, and public seem to care less about saving the leopards. It's all about lynching the rich guy and ignoring the other 3 poachers. Why aren't they searching the houses of the other three? This is so strange. The repeated message from the handling of this case is if you are rich, we will throw the book at you. If you are poor, take what you want. colinneil
Do the RTP not understand how pathetic this looks? Money in action again, senior police already have their very big brown envelopes, so they will come up with whatever BS they can think of to drag this out. Popular Post Darcula
So, forget the bribery attempt. Just being found camping with "possession of three rifles and the carcasses of an endangered black leopard, a muntjac (deer) and a Kalij pheasant" is not enough evidence?
mikebell
On the plus side, his elephant tusks have been proven to be from Africa so he faces another charge of dealing in illicit ivory. That is if he ever deigns to pop into his friendly neighbourhood police station when he can spare the time from his other activities: procuring new passport; transferring loot to Dubai; securing secret air-tickets.

He wasn't camping there - he got lost and scared and stumbled onto the hunting camp in the dark. Yes, that was/is his original story.

They have slapped the rich guy with I think 9 charges so far, searched his house and found booty, and are going after his land holdings. I have no problem with this. But get this: it's farcical the reason they are losing interest in adding a charge for bribery is because it doesn't involve the rich guy. So for the other 3 poachers at the camp that night, who cares right? And who cares about saving precious leopards. The focus of this case is to nail down a rich guy. Different standards where the poor get a free pass.

Rather than charge one of the others with bribery, the sentiment has changed to shelve it because it doesn't have anything on the rich guy.
