PHANG NGA: Officials are getting ready to file a complaint against those responsible for building and operating illegal piers encroaching on protected mangroves in Phang Nga's Thai Mueang district.

The team of Royal Forest Department (RFD) officials together with Tourist Police of Phang Nga, local government officials and soldiers from the Royal Thai Army inspected four piers in Lam Kaen, Thai Muang district, after receiving a tip-off that there were illegal piers in the Khlong Thung Maprao national forest reserve.

Cheewapap Cheewatham, a former Chief of Sirinath National Park who now serves as the Director of the Strategic and Forest Protection Division of the RFD passed the news to The Phuket News today (Mar 3) while the inspection took place yesterday (Mar 2).

Tourism authorities here have no clue what's happening it seems!

There's likely a "big" name behind this jetty, which wasn't built in the last couple of weeks....by the size of the mangrove clearing and buildings, it's probably been there for ages.

Everyone just wants a slice of the tourism pie in the south.
Everything else takes a back seat including the law.

Illegal? Tear it down and confiscate the boats. but..... that comes later first take action the way it is to normal ( outside Thailand)

Tip-off, so someone has obviously missed out on a bit of tea money.

If those piers are owned by court officials, they'll be legal.

Correct.

The pier on the picture is there more then 10 years. No one gave a shxt about it for 10 years as all got a part of the cake till now.

New envelope will be on the way now and the story is forgotten again.

How do you simply find a pier? How do you just notice a canal that's been emitting putrid waste for some time?

Rhetorical questions!
