A vendor in Wangchin district of Phrae province was arrested by soldiers and police after she was found to have in possession slaughtered porcupines for sale.

Ms Pailin Kaeodam, 44, a vendor at a market in Phrae, was stopped for check after she drove in a motorcycle passing a security checkpoint on Highway 1048 from Thorn to Thung Saliem in Thoen district carrying two fertilizer bags.

The search of the bags showed eight slaughtered porcupines concealed in four small bags weighing about 60 kilogrammes and porcupines inards, weighing about 2.6 kg.

Protected species apparently, but it required police and military to detain a 44 year old woman on a motorcycle?

If she had simply obstructed an ambulance she would have not even have been detained at a police station and the fine would only be 500baht.

Something never changes in Thailand....

This poor woman...only trying to make a living.....was detained

The ITD-boss, who was caught with his spoon in the panther-soup, was allowed to leave the country in his private jet...:coffee1:

Thai...

They just kill and eat everything that has legs, can crawl, swim of fly....

I think they taste like Chicken, and you can use a spine to

pick your teeth after.

The poor woman with 8 protected species will be quickly

pushed through the criminal system,or maybe just a spot

fine, while the Black Panther case just goes on and on.

regards Worgeordie

Is this classed as protected wildlife but a black panther “allegedly” shot by Hiso (even though endangered- the Panther not him) isn’t ???? And he can’t be charged for that but she can and be detained!!!! Think there’s more porcupines than black leopards

just saying

No she was illegally trading a protected wild animal to make money.  She was caught with these porcupines this time, but how long has she been doing this and how many has she killed?  If she is killing and selling protected wildlife, I bet she did not only trade in porcupines, but many other species too.  No excuse for her.

As the for the ITD boss... that is just as bad.

She could just as easily sold fried chicken or some other food!

Didn't know they have porcupines here. Learn something new everyday.

On an old episode of Anthony Bourdain, he was in Vietnam.  The local little village restaurant opened up and started cooking.  Open fire oven, the usual assortment of vegetables and noodles and sauces.  Then there was some critter they were chopping up.  Couldn't tell what it was.  Later while they were eating, Anthony asked what type of meat it was.    The translator chatted with the viets but said she didn't know the english name.  Just then Anthony spit out a quill.  Oh, he says, porcupine.

No. it doesn't.  She happened to ride past the checkpoint and was arrested by police/soldiers who were there.  There was apparently no issue detaining her at the checkpoint as that wasn't mentioned at all.

She has done more damage in her years of poaching and destruction of habitat than that evil selfish ITD construction boss.
