I see there’s this visa run service now that charges 2000 baht to run you to Cambodia. I haven’t used the service yet I used to always head to Poipet on my own with my multiple non-Imm O.

Just throwing this out there, do any of you guys consider just doing the visa runs and never doing the extensions? I know the visa runs with the 60 day extension then Visa run again is the norm. I’m in Bangkok btw. Thanks.

if you have to do visa runs it'd be better to do the extension. if you need to travel abroad frequently or have friends in neighbouring countries to visit regularly then it might be worth having the ME instead

i think the normal price from bangkok is 2,500 baht from on nut at around 5am including visa for cambodia. i used it at xmas as cancelled a trip home. mainly filipinos on the bus. back to bkk around 4pm

**no questions asked at ban laem. poipet fine but lots of questions about work and money the last time i was there (but i was between visas and was going for exempt at poipet early last year)

The visa runs are normally only done by those without financials to extend (or in the course of normal business travel for those working outside Thailand).  If you meet extension requirements it is normally the best choice (although for some these border trips with stays in other country can be a mini vacation - but understand immigration is taking a closer look at such activity and would prefer you extend).

You appear to be considering doing a border run instead of doing a 60 day extension.

Not sure it would be worth doing a border to get the 30 days more you would get get from a new entry instead of the 60 day extension.

The best option would be to apply for one year extension of stay. No need to ever do a border run again.

oh you're asking about the 60 day extension at immo. yes it would be better than going to a border depending on where you live and your mrs has to be with you, but like UJ said if you're not travelling out of the country anyway regularly then you'd be best getting the year extension as long as you can meet their requirements

Thank you for the replies. I saw on the on nut service website 2000 baht for the trip to Cambodia. Is it in fact 2500?

Thanks again guys, I will get the extension this time. The 12 or so hour day does seem like a lot to do to get only the extra 60 days.

no you are correct. they are doing runs to kanchanaburi myanmar border on VIP bus for 2k now. a few hours faster than ban laem border

BTW you'd get 90 days at the border not 60

bearing in mind the trip to kanchanaburi is only 2k all in then it may be worth considering. an extra month for 100 baht. you'd probably spend most of the day pissing around in CW for the extension anyway

Yeah honestly that’s what I have been thinking. I don’t like going to the immigration office in cw at all, and the taxi is expensive.

What ill I’ll do is get an extension, do a border run with them and see how it goes, and go from there. I’m definitely going to consider just doing the border runs for the price they’re quoting.... going to cw will take less time no doubt, but I’ll spend more and I will be taking care of everything. Doing runs every three months I get the extra 30 days and it sounds like they’ll do everything for me, and when it comes to visa paperwork and commuting that’s a good thing.

yes. i'd agree. 2k is good and i hate going CW like yourself so if i was in BKK i'd probably do that kanchanaburi run if i needed to for the 90 days

Yeah, I just updated the post above.

Ill do the visa service and report back after everything on which method I prefer.

The other factor is wife must be with you for extension of stay - not so for border crossing.  Makes a difference if they are employed.

it's the same foreign guy(german or swiss? can't remember) who has been running the ban laem runs for years. he has immo in his pocket where he operates. they sort everything. all you need to do is show up with 2k, a passport photo and your passport. he sorts the rest out on both sides of the border

Yeah. I’m not the most “visa savvy” but this strict border run approach seems to be a very viable option to me, for folks on a non-imm O multiple with no financial proof.
