Yes, you should plan on reporting within 24 hours of returning into the country. This will also serve for you to validate with your immigration office that you are indeed restarting the 90 day clock.

The 90 day clock starts on the day you return to Thailand and is nothing to do with TM30 reporting.

Maybe a little off topic, just a quick question, how many days prior to leaving  Thailand can you apply for re-entry permit, can't say I've ever seen any info on matter, currently here on extension of stay.

There is no maximum amount of time to apply for it before leaving the country.

Many people apply for a single or multiple re-entry permit when they apply for their one year extension. The re-entry permit is valid for entry until the permit to stay it is issued for ends.

I know this is the "law" but my IM office does not follow it. They keep sending me (yes this happens) my 90 day reports from the extension date even if I have been out of the country

Can you please clarify what you mean?

Are you saying that your local immigration office completes your 90 day report for you and then posts you the receipt - without you doing anything?
