Minorities in LoS

Long before the Rohingyas became a "problem" within Myanmar, the "Karen" were thrown out of Myanmar. A hilltribe that would not fit into the "scheme of things" in Myanmar. Most of them live in refugee-camps along the Myanmar/Thai border (on the Thai side, of course.) Thailand tolerates those refugee-camps, but is's some western NGO's that keeps them from strarvation.
This "Karen" tragedy never made the headlines, although older than the Rohingya-Tragedy. The world simply didn't take notice.
I lived in this aerea for almost 5 years. Never experienced any empathy by Thai's for those people. = "They are not even Thai's", was the consensus among Thais. I was struck by the complete lack of empathy displayed by Thai's.
No wonder, that most well meaning NGO's usually left after 6 months: No support or protection from the Governement, no willingness of the Thais to give them a chance to integrate, unless it involves cutting sugar-cane at the standart wage of 100 Bht a day for a "non-Thai worker".
Non-Thai minorities have it hard in Thailand, unless they are really needed on some construction-sites.

Long term Farangs are also a minority, but they carry a "protective-shield" called "Money". Without this "protective-shield" called "Money" , I would not want to live in Thailand as a "non-Thai" and be part of a minority, bare of the "protective-shield" called "Money". No sir, thanks but no thanks.
So, for us Farangs the Gospel must be: Make sure we don't run out of money. Otherwise....
Cheers.

Uh huh.

Thanks for contributing. Was hoping for more. But then, being mainly occupied with Topics that have something to do with "Restaurant-Revues" and "How to get back to the US on a shoestring", may prove to be exhausting, leaving little room for meaningful responses outside of "Uh huh".

Cheers.

I need five guys to help build my house , 100 Baht a day ?

If you live near the Myanmar border and this is where you want to build your house. = Can do, but you would be hiring "illegal-workers". Not recommended for Farangs. Big Thai Agri-Enterprises hire them in the region. The Police knows it, the Army knows it and Buddha knows it.

After everybody got their commission, the worker will end up with 70 Bht per day (max).

Cheers.
