Greetings

I have a check made out to USD in a sum less than $10,000.  Does anyone have experience depositing such a document into a Thai bank, specifically, Bangkok Bank?

Please, no comments about wiring it. It's a 'liquidation check' from an investment firm.  The funds can not be wired.  Thank you.

be prepared to wait a minimum of 45 days for clearance.

this was my regular experience from cheques provided from us for consultancy work, albeit around 7 years ago.

expect a clearance fee as well.

Bangkok banks website says be prepared to wait several weeks.

There will be a fee, I think about $50 and you won't be able to access the funds until the check clears back in the U.S.  Usually they tell you one month to six weeks, but sometimes it can be a few days less.  I once had a check clear and be credited to my account in 22 days, but they tell me this is rare.

This is why I maintain a U.S. bank account and simply mail U.S. checks to that account, with a deposit slip.  Then I can use an ACH transfer to bring the funds into my Bangkok Bank account at minimal cost.
