Absconding man shot dead in encounter with police

By The Nation

A man wanted for an alleged murder attempt was shot dead in a shootout with police in Trang province on Friday evening. The encounter also left one policeman severely injured.

Police said Sarawut Thongyoi, 29, was shot and killed in a rubber plantation in Ban Huay Rieng village in Tambon Na Tohming, Muang district, at about 6pm.

Pol Captain Krissada Damkoh, deputy inspector of Huay Yod Police Station, was shot once in his abdomen below the bullet vest.

Police said Sarawut was wanted under a court arrest warrant for attempted murder. A team of 20 policemen found Sarawut sitting in front of his relative’s house about 300 metres away from his own house.

He ran into the rubber plantation when he saw police arriving and engaged in a brief gunfight police before he was shot dead.

I just thought bullets in rubber plantations or burning tires in a forest was the norm form of punishment when you cross the wrong officials but this guy ran in to a plantation. I guess he realized his fate.

It's not like he could even be bothered to hide when wanted for murder. They're so lazy here.

It's nothing like that at all in any way whatsoever.

Here you have a guy who was wanted for murder, he was armed, he shot a policeman and was then shot dead.

The guy in London was unarmed and not doing anything other than wearing a big heavy jacket on a hot day in the middle of the summer.
