Hey, I've flown worse. Try Biman Bangladesh then get back to me...

Hi Baboon, I rather expected  you to pop up!

Iflew Biman Bangladesh a few times some years back. They were still using the DC10s on their European routes, although they had converted them from coal to oil fired by then! Interior decor ( and aroma) reminiscent of a curry house I once visited in Campbelltown, after a particularly rough Saturday night. Dacca airport was a mouldering stinking wreck. We were stuck there for three days once when something broke. Confined to a flea ridden hotel with guards armed with second work war vintage .303 rifles to keep us in!

Mind you, they weren't banned from European airspace.

Ah yes, the Biman DC10s... 'Happy' times, though to be fair they did a good curry...

As far as I know, the Air Koryo Tupelov 204s are not banned from European airspace. Just their Ilyushin 62s.

"Bangkok is also one of the few countries in Asia to host a North Korean embassy,”

The North Korean embassy is one of 57 foreign representations in Mongolia, including the US.

It's a 6+-day trip by train and an 8+ hr flight overland by air from Pyongyang to Mongolia.

JOKE.of the century

This actually is not a joke.

Thailand has already been mentioned as one of a number of possible meeting locations.

It wouldn't be very surprising at all if the meeting is held here.

It kind of makes sense.

Thailand has this neutral vibe about it historically.

Singapore is possible as well which is interesting because they're in a serious balancing act now with their alliance to both China and the USA.

Having a peace summit (or even a one on one meeting discussing steps to alleviate threats) in a country run by a junta after a coup is indeed a novel idea.

Just think about the messages that would throw out to the 'free' world.

Who dreams this stuff up?
The white house staff?

This suggestion defies imagination and visualization.

With Deputy PM Prawit as the host and perhaps moderator of such a parley it would mean there would be at least two people who are vertically challenged and horizontally unchallenged at such a famous meeting. Comparison can be readily made.

What an astonishing gathering of minds and bodies this would be.

I really don't think the current form of Thai government is a real problem for either Kim or "trump." The talks aren't about encouraging NK to be a democracy at all and it's well documented that "trump" supports authoritarian nationalism at home and abroad. I understand the optics might seem odd to the world at large, but what could be MORE odd than a meeting between these historically bizarre clownish leaders regardless of venue?

To paraphrase what Quintin Crisp famously said about never cleaning his flat, you get to the point where it can't get MORE dirty. Similarly, the venue being in Thailand won't make it MORE bizarre.

Well, one thing is for sure, General Rolex has no lack of self-confidence!

Those who remember IMF in 1991 will recall, that the Thais nuked the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre out of nothing within nine months; the slums opposite the centre were covered up with walls and the kids were given a week off from school, so they could "enjoy IMF" as well.
Speaking to an European Finance Minister he expressed his utter disbelief in the media and asked me, what the news is all about Bangkok's notorious traffic jams while he was speeding down, escorted by police and sirens at almost 100km/h.

So, yes, technically possible but then the PM was Anant Panyarachoon and the summit is 27 years ago .....

Again, it might be in Thailand.

No joke.

Quote

American officials said the most likely mutually-agreed-upon choice of venue would be in Southeast Asia or Europe, especially from among the choices of Singapore (site of a recent China–Taiwan summit), Vietnam (Communist country recognized by the U.S. since 1995), Thailand, Switzerland (where Kim and his two siblings had some schooling[27]), or Sweden (whose embassy acts as intermediary for Americans traveling in North Korea).[28]

Safety not a problem as long as the participants don't travel on the roads.

thai roads are ultra safe for the top people, cavalcades and rolling road blocks mean they are the only ones on them

Yes, it does. I am seldom willing to grant Trump any points, but he can prove me wrong by smoothing hostilities with "rocket man".  After all, this is the guy who brags about his dealmaking abilities.

Just looking at it objectively Kim will demand a lot for a little and won't budge. "trump" feels pressure to do something historic and call it a big win even if it isn't. So my best guess is something will be agreed to that gives a big win to Kim but "trump" can paint as a big win for him. I don't think "trump" really cares about anything but his vanity.
