Phuket’s Governor, Norapat Plodthong, visited Pakbang Canal and set a meeting with Patong Mayor, Chalermluck Kebsup, about the wastewater solution for the canal after rubbish and waste had been left without dredging for 2 years.

The water released into Patong beach after this week’s rains, from the canal, is foul and stinks. The Governor said after the survey at the canal that the meeting agreed that the wastewater comes from the litter, green waste and dregs that’s built up over 2 years. Patong’s Mayor says the Municipality hasn’t dredged the canal for a long time because of budget issues.

“Phuket Provincial Offices of Public Works and Town & Country Planning has set a 400 million Baht budget to solve the whole wastewater issue and dredging Pakbang Canal is included in the budget but hasn’t been seen as a priority so far. When it rains, the dregs flow with the rest of the drainage water into Patong Bay.”

Kamala is now just as bad, if not worse than Patong. At least Patong has a poorly functioning wastewater treatment facility. Kamala Has none with thousands of new condos about to come on the market.

This year's version of a Governor is absolutely useless. The worst one yet...and that's saying something.

Has he been her long enough to blame for wastewater treatment plat not built and all the pump's, drain's and so on needed to make it all work. Will take years of planing I would guess.

But who would make lo g term plans that you can't gain any money from?

Will be a new top boss long before anything is up and running :sorry:

Actually, all the west coast beaches have problems.

Hopefully the new 5star hotels being built in Kamala are all required to have proper in-house sewage treatment systems.

The beach towns with the biggest populations are typically worst hit.

Patong, Karon, and Kata beaches  have some super-nasty canals or klongs(toilets) running directly on/across the beaches.

Surin, Lanai, Bangtao, Kamala, and Naiharn beaches are less densely populated, but  still suffer from lack of sewage treatment.

Funny how there is no tax money to save the beaches, the main reason people come to phuket.

Where do all the hotel taxes and VAT taxes go???

Bit harsh. This guy has probably visited more canals than all the other Governors combined.

Visiting them is one thing..........doing something about them is another.

Reminds me of the old saying, "a large hole has appeared in Bangla road, and workmen are said to be looking into it".

Looking and doing. Separate things.

Thanks for clearing that up, Mate.  Some may have thought my post was a little ironic.

"my post was a little ironic".

Or slightly obscure sarcasm, which was masked in part by the first two words, hence my comment..........but good all the same!

"This year's version of a Governor is absolutely useless." - he is very poor at "urging."

He definitely needs to brush up on his "urging" skills.  "Urging" tends to fix everything here, and he is failing at it.  :cheesy:
