Hi,

i’m a Brit and flew out of Don Muang Airport. I overstayed a 30 day Permission to stay stamp by 9 hours (one day)

Before Immigration would simply charge 500THB and let you go on your merry way. I wasn’t charged the 500THB, which I thought was a result but noticed they had written something next to the stamp in my passport. (Attached, to the left)

Anyone know what it means? And has there been some changes in the rules?

thanks for any help

Flying out with <1 day overstay, no fine, but a note in your passport that you overstayed by less than 24 hours (departing by air only, land borders charge from day 1).

Been that way since pretty well forever.

Should have no effect on any future entries or visas.

Thanks a lot. Planning to fly back in on Monday and thought i’d double check before getting on the plane. ?

Just to be sure I would ensure you have the equivalent of 20k Baht in cash, we don't want to be giving the IO any excuses.

It just notes that you overstayed by 1 day.

Think yourself lucky. My mate was charged 500 Bht for a 90 minute overstay (when the plane left ,,, not when he was stamped out)

Yes, Different borders have different rules, Some charge overstay from one minute, and some give you first 24 hours for free but charge you for both days if you are 24 Hours and one minute over.

Afaik the "1 day overstay is free" applies to all airports, so "your mate" actually overstayed 2 days ;)

I stand to be corrected, but I think the "first 24 hours free" policy applies only to Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang.

A little insight to you're surmising might be helpful in order to make an assessment of your conjecture.

So your mate was not stamped out until the moment that the plane left?  Really?

If they had overstayed 2 days the fine should have been 1,000 baht.

The first 24 hours at DMK & BKK is, usually, free. However, if you overstay 24 - 48 hours you, usually, get fined for two days at 1,000 baht.

I rely on the reports of others who I consider reliable, but I posted "I think" because my surmise is not based on first hand experience. One post that seems consistent with my beliefs is https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/972639-1-day-overstay-what-to-do/?do=findComment&comment=11693644
