Very sad. Let me just pre-empt the don't understand why brigade: people do this when the balance of their mind is disturbed, thus rendering them unable to think or rationalise well.

Thank you for clearing this up. I would never have thought it myself.

RIP John

After 2 divorces and now in a lovely 8+ years relationship with a 40 something Thai lady (not married but might as well be) I can concur that doing a Swan dive off the 18th floor is not the way to go, life has so many surprises just around the corner, it really is a shame that these guys cannot confide in a friend or use the service provided by The Samaritans.

As for the "new girlfriend", was it a long term sort of thing or a one or two night take away ?

R I P mate, feel sad for you.

PS: the report said he came from Ireland apparently.

was the ex wife and the new girlfriend related somehow or perhaps friends?

want to know who killed Kennedy?

Would that bring him back if they are somehow related?

Didn't the CIA kill Bob? :vampire:

RIP, no dysfunctional marriage  in this world is worth to commit suicide.

What a sad story. And he doesn't seem to be the only one.

My girlfriend said that if we didn't marry within the next year then she'd say goodbye. I said "I'll save you the year and adios". No marriage then no divorce.

I just got this last week 55

’I’m giving you untill the end of the year’

Seeing as I live in Pattaya and she’s in Korat whether this means getting serious and moving closer or marriage (or both) I’m not sure.

I’m gonna ride it out until November ?

It is sad, sometimes the loss of anyone, with whom you have shared part of life together can and does affect people, sometimes with tragic results. The reason for the divorce we will never know buit whatever the reason, my thoughts are with his family and RIP old feller.

In your opinion would you consider isolation from family support to play a large part in the apparent suicide rate here?

Apart from suicide and self harm seeming to be an accepted and common part of the culture and maybe sone guys spending too much time her and believing in their own heads it is the best way to ‘get back’ at someone, I’m at a loss to pin point any other concrete reason (apart from the obvious of course)

Even when I sit them down and ask them directly I’m still confused!

Answers to questions!!! Now you really are expecting a lot. Have you noticed how deaf they can be or just don't understand when it comes to questions!!??

Feel sorry about him, RIP. But at the age of 68, with a Thai wife, not sure how the life would be, as she is more happy getting some money rather than looking for happiness together.

But as the dead man cannot speak, only Thai Doctors and Police will come to a conclusion that not one is at fault in Thai's side. Only God and the dead man know how much trauma he had before he died.

Another untold sad story in unseen Thailand.

Awful lot of cynical observations there.

Chances are you, like many on here dont have a clue what was going on between the separated couple.

Maybe he was knocking her about, always drunk, couldnt perform etc.

Equally she might have been a wrong'un.

Divorces are common back in the west and probably the reason there arent as many suicides is that both parties have extended family, friends etc.

Some blokes come over here and after 5 minutes marry some girl half their age, speak no thai and wonder why the relationship falters.

Many relationships go very very well.

I wont jump the gun and blame the thais like so many do on here.

I wont blame the farang either.

I have no facts on why this has occurred and neither do you I suspect

And starting over this age is almost impossible.

Not in Thailand. I thought that's the point. Reinvent yourself with a whole new set of rules and expectations.

I wonder if she (wife) pushed him physically or just emotionally.

Either way she is to blame.

Having been married to a thai I know just how the guy was feeling.

At times they can drive you crazy with their ways. Sometimes it seems like they are unwilling to listen to anything. Everything has to be their way no matter how stupid that way is.

Hope the guy can RIP now.

if legally married she will yes

in the original article it says:

" due to travel to Khon Kaen tomorrow to finalise the divorce "

so assume if they were getting divorced it must have been a legal marriage

Illegal marriage, followed by a legal divorce?

... something he probably couldn’t come to terms with..

A friend once said..”I will never put 100% of my heart, or 100% of my capital into Thailand “.

That friend will never be a jumper...

I think this member was reffering to village marriages where it is just a party and no legal paper work.

Indeed J, a wedding party - not a marriage.
