The trend seems to be the destruction of all male-oriented spaces and activities.  First it was allowing girls into the Boy's Clubs of America, then allowing girls on to boys sports teams, now boy scouts, next up is college frats getting disbanded.

 

Also I have zero problem with women joining the NRA and learning to shoot.  I know many women who carry every day and are passionate about firearms and the 2A, but what's going on here is ridiculous.

As a BSA volunteer adult leader in the 80's - 90's, I know the decission is purely based on budget.

 

Positions: Eagle Scout, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, District, Council, Woodbadge, and National Day Camp Certifications. 

 

The BSA has been holding strong against this decission for a long time.  Especially after the Girl Scouts allowed lesbians to become Girl Scout Leaders for monetary funding. The BSA was very vocal in their commitment to not allow gay men to become leaders at that time.

 

Everything in committee meetings,  scouting events, fundraising, and decission making was determined by budget.  It is a business run by paid Scouting Professionals who get volunteers to do all the work.

 

Great times some great friends but it got way too political for me and the deeper I got sucked in for my time and financially subsidizing events etc...

 

Sad to see it's long tradition, pride, and benefits to young men go down the drain.  Sad to say goodbye but I needed my sanity back.

 

By the,way, the BSA had the coed Explorers program for high school age youth where both could earn the Eagle Scout award.

Exactly. It is well publicized that BSA has made this change because existing enrollments were ruinously LOW. It is NOT about PC. Yet the "anti-PC" reactionaries are still freaking out, hurling alt-right misogynist hate speech slurs, as if it was motivated by so called PC.

I will add again, although I was never enrolled in BSA because I don't fancy camping (no comments please), I think it would have been better to keep it all male. The leadership likely does to, but again, the change was made because they NEEDED to do it.

And they have successfully thwarted efforts to put an end to Jim Crow laws. They have reversed the increase in numbers of American citizens who call themselves atheists or non-religious. Fair point to Jingthing, the Scouts (et al) have been in decline for years, and the moves they've made in recent years are an effort to halt and, hopefully, reverse that trend. 

 

If you alienate parents with ever sharpening liberal political and social views, and they use their kids as boycott tools to signal their adult beliefs and virtues, that's a lot of warm bodies. 

 

If you alienate  conservative parents and they do the same, that's also lost warm bodies.

 

This is about the adults involved, not the kids.   BSA is pressured from both sides and was forced to make a business decision.   We'll see if it works.
