Rainy season is back, and so are Pattaya’s floods

image.png

PATTAYA:--Songkran is over and the rainy season has returned. And the usual flooding problems have come back with it.

Water ran a meter deep on Sukhumvit Road near the Highway Department April 27 following a second day of tropical storms. Beach and Third roads, likewise, turned into rivers with 40-60 centimeters of storm runoff disabling traffic. Roaring rapids developed along the major East Pattaya roads.

Authorities deployed pumps in seven locations to help drain the water and, after two hours, the roads became passable again.

For those repeatedly hit with water damage, city hall’s promises of relief can’t be fulfilled soon enough.

No reports of it flooding...yet

Its absolutely brilliant dispite my predictions that it will flood. It is however built on a high part of the road so rain runs away from it. My wife has said there are plans to build 2 more. 1 at the Pattaya Thai intersection and one at thr Therepesit Rd intersection. That would be a concern for flooding as there is always flooding at these points.

I doubt (but stranger things happen)
they would do 1 at Theprasit and another at South junction they are very close..+ South always floods I think they could do it by making the entry/exit points on the higher points north and south but they would have the very problem everyone feared with central underpass ?

In my opinion it would make sense to have underpasses ,if not overpasses at
Theprasit-south (combined ? )
central and one at north road junction..
roundabouts would be much cheaper and quicker but the Thais just don't seem able to use them properly. [emoji45]

This was the original plan reported before they started the Klang tunnel.

Whether that plan has survived the last 3 years with a new administration ..............?

Another of these threads where some  ( not all ) bemoan the fact that flooding occurs in a developing country..wow what a surprise.

They sob and stamp their feet etc and ask why is it allowed despite everyone knowing the money isnt there for the infrastructure we are accustomed to in 'good old back home'.

Thailand hasn't been a "developing" country for decades.

There is plenty of money and they are fully capable of building things properly. The reason that things don't get built properly or maintained, is well known, but definitely not a question of "development".

If not for the known problem, Thailand could have the infrastructure of Singapore.

LOL. Thailand has had monsoon rains as long as it has had people. The reason for flooding is unregulated and unplanned development without installing proper drainage systems, for the usual reason.

And your answer about the rest of the world

Is that the same as Thailand?

And as the monsoon in Asia just get same every year sorry you need to read more about weather before your answer because weather had changed drastically in the last decade

Monsoon rain is monsoon rain regardless about climate change. A lot of water in a short time. Doesn't matter as to overall rainfall.
