What's the definition of a lane change violation?

Picture a set of lights with 4 lanes. 3 for going straight through and one for turning right. You are in the lane to turn right and some a-hole in the lane to your left tries to over take you and turn right from the straight ahead lane. If I think it's going to happen when I'm waiting to turn right when the lights change I go as far forward straight as I can before turning the wheel and leave them stuck with the cars behind them getting stuck as well.

You can hear lots of horns honking as you turn right with cars in the same lane as you doing the same thing. ??

Yes but you are assuming that all the cars have a license, many dont.

I never assumed all car have a license.

What you say is the resullt a non licensed car and that makes that a small fine will turn into a bigger problem when you are not having a license on a car that is used.

They have the cameras and easy too add the recognition and then catch the outstanding fines and cars. They do this in many countries and is probably the up selling and tell the costs for the system are and investment.

making current effective laws very interesting to enforce them.

Having to set up something to stop the people paid to uphold the law actually breaking it seems ridiculous to me !

OK ! So they actually caught 14,000 of the bad drivers in one day.

Now the problems start. How do the Authorities actually get the money from the fines that are issued by mail.

Go whistle for it I think.

Think it through, they have the tag number, they have a video, the car will need to renew tag every year. Pay fine now or pay fine plus 25% upon renewal. It's a great idea except they should have started at stop lights, great start though!

You have a better idea than just making the cops behave proper?

Sack them and get better stock would seem a better idea

Until the cops get paid enough to live a half decent life it's not happening. Tea money is factored in as part of a cops pay. Earmark this windfall towards their pay and let them loose to actually solve violent crime .

If you think paying cops more will stop the bribes I think you are very, very misled ! There are clearly enough scams, bribes and fraud stories on TV every day that dispute your stance.

If you live in BKK I suppose you're expected to know where these "no change lanes" zones are located ?

Where do they start, and where do they finish ? How long are you expected to stay in your lane ?

I asked my wife these life changing questions. With much reluctance, she temporarily stopped eating, and Googled it, or whatever Thai's do.

Her reply. "Who cares ? We live Buriram."

When she's right ...... she's right.

Turns out, there's apparently 15 main BKK roads involved. Don't know where any of them are, so once again the missus wins. 5555

Good luck to you BKK guys.

Exactly. Doesn't stop very well paid politicians and other government officials from looting the public purse.

Then that makes this stab at transparency a good start. Where I live in Brazil the populous is forcing out the corruption, many politicos in jail. If it can happen there it can happen anywhere.

There was a clear film once being used in many countries, when cameras began operating...it would not allow the camera to read the licence place....got banned quick time in Australia.!

I'm sure the Thais will find a way around this inconvenience

Is that they don't care or truly don't have an understanding what the traffic rules are and really don't recognize violations when they occur?

the problem lies in that what are recognizable violations to westerners are normal driving behaviors for Thai...

the current police don't have a clue so they need to be educated on the rules and how to enforce...it's a huge undertaking...

I hope they are able to back up the fine with an actual video of the offence to all 14k people

When people get a speeding ticket in Europe you don't get to see a video just see how quickly you speed was same here it is a radar speed control system

Agree, and further I wonder if anybody has thought about installing cameras so that they can catch multiple types of offences.

In this case it's all billed as 'lane changing offences', but could they not be installed at strategic locations etc., to catch other offences. Multitasking...

How about all the illegal parking especially near markets and shops in rural Thailand - if all the laws were enforced and fines paid every policeman could receive a 'living wage' without resorting to corruption.

If they set up camera's at every traffic light junction in the country what would the daily score be for red light jumpers ?   Tens of thousands every day and when will the Government wake up to this cash cow ?

The UK woke up to this cash cow decades ago.

Speed cameras, traffic light cameras, lane change cameras, bus lane only cameras, average speed cameras, pedestrian crossing cameras - you name it, there's a camera for it in the UK.

Unnecessary.  The UK don't provide a video of traffic offences and nor should anyone else.  A photo is enough.

The UK ask the registered keeper who the driver is at the time of offence and if there's no reply, the registered keeper is done for refusing to answer.  Either way, they are b@ggered.

They have had the cameras in Brazil 15 years. Hate to think what would happen to me if the Federal Police caught me with something on my plate. Those cats are very large and angry. They would be way more effective at stop lights as there would be more infractions plus it would document more accidents. I wonder who thought combating lane changing was a top priority?

Just read the road and observe, as you should do.

I guess camera business is good in the UK.
