White House official mocked 'dying' Senator McCain - media

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A White House official mocked Senator John McCain's brain cancer at an internal meeting on Thursday, saying his opposition to President Donald Trump's CIA nominee "doesn't matter, he's dying anyway," according to media reports.

Kelly Sadler, a special assistant in the White House communications office, made the comments at a closed-door meeting attended by about two dozen staffers, The Hill newspaper said. The Washington Post also reported Sadler's remarks.

McCain's wife, Cindy McCain, responded in a tweet. "May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren," she said.

John McCain, 81, has been a frequent critic of Trump. In a memoir due to be released later this month, McCain accuses fellow Republican Trump of failing to uphold American values.

McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer last year. He has been receiving treatment in his home state of Arizona and has been absent from the Senate for months.

A White House spokesman did not dispute the report, the Washington Post said.

"We respect Senator McCain's service to our nation and he and his family are in our prayers during this difficult time," the White House said in a statement, according to the Post.

On Wednesday, McCain, who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam and was tortured by his captors, issued a statement urging his fellow senators to vote against Gina Haspel for CIA director.

He said she failed in a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing to address his concerns about the agency's post-9/11 harsh interrogation program for terrorism suspects.

South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a close friend of John McCain, told CNN of the White House aide's comment, "Ms. Sadler, may I remind you that John McCain has a lot of friends in the United States Senate on both sides of the aisle. Nobody is laughing in the Senate."

Graham has said he supports Haspel's nomination.

We should expect little else from Ttump’s White House, during his campaign he himself mocked those living with disability....  and illiberals lapped it up.

Much of what Haspel actually did is classified. Dianne Feinstein, generally a defense hawk, knows what she did and is against Haspel. She'll probably get confirmed but she shouldn't. She refused to say the torture techniques used in Thailand were immoral. That should be disqualifying. If confirmed (probably she will be) she will be subject to the orders of a very disgusting, totally immoral president. We need backbone in the CIA head. She ain't it! God bless John McCain -- a real American hero. Bone spurs demagogue "trump" and his team of swamp dwellers is not.

If you're talking about that disabled reporter then you're wrong. MSM was debunked as soon as the accusation was made. Those hand gestures he made don't mean much considering he's been on video dozens of times making the same hand gestures talking on a number of different issues in the past. There's a great video exposing the lying MSM on that one.

There’s no evidence torture works.

It’s why the most successful interrogators of WW2 (on both sides of the conflict) refused to use torture.

So does supporting a draft dodging coward.

Trump is showing his leadership style: bullying, insults, general nastiness. And that style is adopted by his minions.

He doesn't think John was a hero because he was captured? I guess that makes Trump a hero too. He made sure he wasn't captured by evading draft with fake disability. Military genius

As far as integrity; pure bravery; and exemplifying what a real hero is-  John Mccain is everything that Donald Trump is not and for a WH staffer to use such cruel language about anyone- let alone a man who served America for decades is beyond belief.

John  McCain  as a Prisoner of WAR in Vietnam was offered release by the North Vietnamese because his father was a ranking Admiral but John refused by indicating either all of the POWS go home but not he alone.   The Vietnamese refused and John lingered in the  "Hanoi Hilton' until the end of the war.

In addition- to me John Mccain is also a hero because he had the gumption and grit to vote against the flawed healthcare bill that would have destroyed Obamacare but replace it with something far worse which stopped the bill from  becoming law.  Senator MCcain votes his conscience not because the President tells him what to do.

Donald Trump and his minions are vile individuals- who one day will be placed on the scrapheap of history while  Americans a 100 years from now will remember Senator Mccain.

His "leadership" style is shockingly childish and insecure.

See his vulgar berating of DHS Secretary Nielsen at yesterday's cabinet meeting for the most recent example.

I am getting close to feeling genuinely sorry for the man who has clearly waded into the deep end of the pool without even the most basic understanding of swimming.

Well, Trump is not as bad as his racist white supremacists supporters.

What credibility? Brain cancer kills a lot of people. People say insensitive things at times. That's life.

Sadly the 2000s has been affected with massive outrage over mere words.

People go on witch hunts over words yet turn a blind eye to serious problems.

The claims that he is rich are yet to be proven.

I have very much more than I need, and while not retired have no need at all to work, it comes under the heading 'financially independent' - Rich enough for me. Let me know when you get there.

Trump maybe be 'rich' financially but as a human being he is as poor as can be.  To even mention Donald Trump in the same breath as John McCain is sacrilegious. Trump couldn't hold Senator MCCain's jock strap.

Donald Trump is a narcissistic meglomaniac who got wealthy off of his father's sweat.  He has absolutely no understanding of how to talk to the average person nd is reviled by Americans and people abroad.  He will go down in history as a disgusting human being and as a poor example of a President. A Hundred years from  now History will record Donald Trump as a 'bastard' and  John McCain as a hero and  Trump's supporters as  'the  deplorables'/  Sorry for you folks- you voted for the  'beast'

His critics say far worse things than him yet claim the high moral ground.

Massive hypocrisy.

I know lots of people who own resorts- who cares-   He is a poor excuse for a human being- making fun of the disabled; denigrating a war hero- John MCCain; calling the Mexicans rapists and criminals; arguing with the parents of a deceased Army soldier; and not even knowing the name of a slain US Soldier killed in Niger.

Go ahead- support him- he will need every vote in 2020 but I expect he will have resigned by then once they tighten the noose on his balls and expose him for what he really is-  a miserable piss ant human being that could care less for the American people and the country.  If you haven't guessed- I don't like him!!
