maddox41
The cheap aftermarket exhausts that cost around 2000 b are noisy and as for performance gain very little indeed I'm 50 and have 3 bikes all with sports exhausts real ones. And they do give your a performance gain if you know what your doing but are they loud no as you can baffle them with a db killer but most Thais take them out to fit on there Honda waves or the Honda Msx the police pull me over all the time to take photos of my bikes! I dont race on the roads as I don't like Pissing of the general public with exhaust noise but my bikes are modified

What happened about the Government plans maybe 16 years ago to remove all these old 2-stroke bikes off the road? I especially hope the Buriram Police read this and act accordingly after those youths died there a few days ago. Every evening hundreds scream out of the Rajapat University on these modified machines and race past the Football Stadium down the 2445. If I've seen em 100 times why haven't the police and done something to stop it? Because there is no money in it for them.
connda
Build a drag strip and they will come. Drag strips provide the physical and safety infrastructure while providing an outlet for teens to blow off steam, and a revenue stream if the strip is a state run enterprise. Or they can continue the charade that is no more effective than the 'war on drugs' but in this case it's the 'war on motorcycle racing', and it creates a criminal class out of otherwise good kids. Both 'wars' are unwinnable using the Machiavellian 'throw them all in jail' mentality. Edited May 12, 2018 by connda
Classic Ray
Instead of just banning them, I wish someone would set up small circuits away from populated areas but near Bangkok and other large cities where the kids could meet to race as much as they liked. Have it marshaled and scrutineered, maybe by their parents (ha) so they wear helmets and protective clothing, nothing too fancy, just enough to keep them alive. Crack down hard on street racing to force them into the circuits. Could even give riding and maintenance lessons and help them get proper licences. Good business opportunity as these kids have money to burn and I am sure would pay 100 baht to avoid hassle from the police. Taking their bikes is no disincentive as there are thousands of unregistered or stolen bikes they can pick up cheaply.

kingstonkid
There is actually an easy way to solve this. Set aside an area like an old runway or such and leave it open for drag racing on bikes or cars. Have it regulated as to the condition of bikes and cars with stipulations. That was how they resolved it back in the good old days. 1
Formaleins
The problem here is that the cops are totally incompetent in distinguishing modifications. I totally agree with pulling those bikes with the modified loud exhausts, not an issue for me. The problem I have is the fools that are doing this (The BIB) were recently featured on a Thai TV show for teenagers on Channel 3 or 7. They brought in two highway cops that normally seize bikes and arrest these kids and they asked them to point out all of the modifications on a Honda 500 that they deemed reasonable to seize the bike as being modified. The cops did a fantastic job, they were even able to identify problems with the passenger rear pegs being only metal and having no rubber covers, along with modified exhaust and a shedfull of other mods like headlights, flashers etc. that they claimed made the bike illegal. Great you might think, they really are on the ball - Well, not quite, the bike was actually BOG STANDARD OFF THE HONDA PRODUCTION LINE! Clueless imbeciles as usual, clueless fools in everything that they do.

fakename
In a country where anyone can ride around with blue or red lights, or even a street side shop, with flashing blue and red lights, there is not much hope for law enforcement! Oh, and as far as a drag strip for kids, who is going to pay for the insurance? Who is going to inspect the bikes, to make sure they are safe? No one! Chongalulu
The loudness of the exhaust is in inverse proportion to the IQ of the vehicle owner, which is why you see/hear so many in Thailand. Even haulage vehicles or farm tuk tuks which can have no performance pretensions have stupidly large tailpipes simply welded onto the end of the exhaust system. The puny motorbikes of 110/125cc simply have the baffles removed invariably making a 'wet fart' noise with no performance enhancement. They’re moronic simpletons. 1

bizboi
As an owner of two big bikes (and a scooter), this is quite a coincidence that it should come up today. Really strange that this comes up today - would be great to find the laws concerning bike modifications. I agree with posters that are concerned about idiots removing baffles they are true inconsiderate clowns - does anyone know what are the laws in Thailand about proper bike modifications for instance converting a bike into a cafe racer or a chopper. I am just about to order a full kit to convert my kawasaki ninja into a cafe racer that is produced in UK - do there have to be notifications anywhere if the colour, frame number and engine number remain the same? and before you ask YES it will have a PROPER exhaust system complete with baffles. thailand49
One can quote the law all they want, start at A and go down to Z here none of it is being enforced enforcement is 24/7 365 days a year. Crackdown now then back to normal until someone gets a hair up their butts again. I fully understand because like everyone we were all young and I hope when I get to be 80, my son or grand kids are home and their friends come to visit don't and I know they won't because they know I'll open a can of whip ass on them even at 80! I'd like to see them impounded first as they are much worse noise pollutants IMO. A guy used to start one up in the condo building next door and they'd be an incredibly loud rumbling noise through the whole house. People who ride these types of bikes are nothing more than attention seekers. Edited May 12, 2018 by tropo
