Hello-

Are there any immigration offices in Isaan (Northeastern Thailand) besides the one in Nong Kai?  I'm looking for an office to extend my tourist visa.

Thank you for any information.

That site gives only the entry border points. I think the poster was after the Immigration office in the towns etc.

Thanks much for this referral.  Yes, it's true that I have no reason to go to the border if there is an immigration office inland, but I have a feeling these may BE the only immigration offices in Isaan, and there are several on the map, including two in Ubol province, if not in Ubol itself.  Much better than having to travel all the way back to Bangkok just for an extension.

Thanks again.

Would be nice to have some feedback on how you get on what office you used address telephone number ect, as this question of isaan immigration offices has come up before with as far as i  know no first hand accounts of people having used them for apart from Nong Khai thanks.

There is an immigration office at Kap Cheong, about 22 km south of Prasat and 51 km south of Surin.

Its on the left hand side as you go South through the town (but so is nearly everything else!)

Their phone No: is  044 559166.

The border crossing at Chom Chom is just another 6 km's down the road

Incidentally not many people are aware that this is the easiest crossings for Visa Runs - no touts etc - You can drive right up to the border and get out and be back in your car within 10 minutes! - Unless of course the casino's 500 metres into Cambodai take your fancy! And don't forget your duty free!

:)Visited Nong Khai imigration recently, only farrang there, extended tourist visa within 15 minutes, staff friendly and talkative, very helpful. I am based in Khon Kaen so visa run is a half day trip, (unlike Bangkok!) Drove up in around 2 hours, there is also a regular bus service from Khon Kaen,Udon Thani etc.  Some websites advertise imigration office as in Nong Khai town overlooking Mekong, IT ISN'T. To get to Imigration office follow signs for Friendship Bridge, past railway station, over railway tracks and road splits left/ right,(Right goes to Friendship Bridge, Left signed Udon Thani, goes to Imigration), office is a few hundred yards on left. Another good thing about goint to Nong Khai imigration, if things go badly, and you are not extended, you are only a short distance from the border to Lao and a 30 day visa on entry stamp on your return.
