I am requesting advice on the best m/c (scooter) for my Thai wife.

I know absolutely nothing about m/cs save that they have two wheels and, in my opinion, are death traps, and I have resisted buying one for my wife until now and do so most reluctantly but 'needs must'.

My wife has never owned an m/c and has as yet no licence and the machine will not be purchased until she has a licence to ride one (which has gone down like a lead balloon).

To cut to the chase:  What would be the most appropriate m/c to buy - Honda or Yamaha - cc, automatic, electric or kick start?  Likely price.

Many thanks in advance.

You don't say where you are,  scoots are all mostly twist and go and much the same, usually it's just about which one does your wife like, that said some training in all riding aspects will be necessary and beneficial even to pass the Thai joke motorcycle test.

I remember vaguely that some Honda dealers offer training when buying a new scoot.

As she is an absolute beginner go for automatic.

"Honda Scoopy i" or "Yamaha Fino" are probably the most popular "girlie" scooters.

Roll the dice.

Here the granddaughter insisted on a Honda Scoopy i, top model of course

"Club 12", LED lights, tubeless tires, idle stop.

About 54000.

Yamaha Grand Filano , if she likes the look , is a superb bike. Fuel injection , E85 compatible , 62 KM/L , great build quality. Training. Get her some. Then some more. Not a ride around the car-park or the block. And dont bother with the free helmet with the bike. Buy her a decent make , such as "Real" , or such . About 1500 Baht. And ensure she wears it !. That includes doing up the strap correctly.

The scoppi i is crap, bottom of the totem pole in the honda scooter line-up and it shows.

Wife has one, done 23k km, now its rattling from loose panels, my slightly older pcx150 has fared much better, no rattling and still fells good after 6 years.

Yes get a click or a filano, mid range stuff, we are thinking about getting a filano as a replacement for the scoppy-dobi but as mentioned, get something she likes (within reason). Don't go to a Vespa shop, they are very expensive considered what you are getting, but they looks pretty cool if scooters are your thing.

Buy her a cheap second hand one with scratches. Then the new scratches won't be so obvious.

And spend the rest of the money on a good helmet, boots, leathers, etc..

Maybe if you tell her all this she will give up.
