Should you be careful about what you write in TV Forum?

In a previous thread, one thing leading to another, the issue of internet privacy was raised, and this issue is well worth having its own thread.

Many users have little or no idea of what is going on behind the internet curtain.

We are not talking about Thaivisa here, but about the companies that actually run your devices as if they belonged to them!

Thanks to someone who is rather wellknown in internet circles (check links below), and who went through the trouble of doing some research, we now have a good idea of the extent of the damage done to our privacy.

Not only these companies keep a very detailed record of absolutely everything that ever went in or out of our devices (browsing history, photos taken, received and sent, emails, what you watch on Youtube, what you download, and everything else), but they also keep a record of our every move (where you were, when, how long...).

Many users tend to dismiss such information, saying something like "I don't care, I have nothing to hide".

This is a wrong reaction for many reasons.

First, what is normal or legal for someone can be interpreted differently by someone else.

Just ask the guy who had the police knocking at his door because he had browsed fertilizer websites!

On top that, it is easily possible to build a completely wrong picture of someone by cherrypicking into one's data.

In other words, with some effort, everyone can be turned into a criminal.

And this is actually done, albeit not on a large scale...for now...

For the time being, it seems there is little we can do about it, notably because of the monopoly a handful of companies have on running the internet...in other words, there is no alternative!

Yet, it may be important to remain aware of this situation, and see how it evolves...most probably not for the better...

Yes. Should you be careful about what you write if you live in Thailand? Yes. Should you be careful about what you like/share/view/comment if you live in Thailand? Yes.

Which company does that ?

Why would anyone want to know what videos I have been watching on youtube ?

Which company is constantly monitoring me and why are they doing it ?

Or are these just the concerns of paranoid old hippies who smoked too much weed in their youth ?

Right then,  I better start enjoying myself before I get arrested and sent to work hard labour in the Siberian salt mines because my grandson is watching Tom & Jerry cartoons on YouTube.

I am to scared to use Google .

If I do a websearch for "Pizza" , they will send me adverts for Pizzas

I've read 1984 and I know the signs to look out for

Absolutely.

The companies that store everything we write do not have our best interests at heart.

Should you be careful about what you write in TV Forum?

Yes.

Should you be careful about what you write if you live in Thailand?

Yes.

Should you be careful about what you like/share/view/comment if you live in Thailand?

Yes.

And this is not about annoying adtracking, being spammed etc. Child play.

TV moderators will try to safe you (and the forum) from the worst by removing potentially dangerous content.

You don't live in a country with unlimited freedom of speech.

I think this does not need further details?

Sure there are methods to hide from the worst but that's for the tech savvy.

It's up to you whether you feel the need to supply your full real name, address, phone number for each whatever trivial website.

Use it only where absolutely necessary.

Google/Youtube, Facebook have nothing coming close to my real name.

You can still use a Google account to your advantage.

I use different account names on PC and mobile both with made up data.

My major mistake: I allowed them to access exact location by the phone GPS for one of the accounts.

Facebook is somewhat useless without data striptease.

I have a made up account just to see what my two only "friends" publish and read public content.

Otherwise I don't publish there.

Without real data "you" is an IP address at a certain time logged by your ISP.

In Thailand access to the logs is easy for the "government".

Every Thai mobile phone number is registered to a real name/ID.

So think on your own what the consequence is.

Isn't it actually a criminal offense to create   a fake FaceBook account?

A violation of FBs terms of use being a criminal offense?

Punished by deletion of account which is otherwise difficult

You will rather be sent to work hard labour in a Michigan salt mine, bc your son is watching RT.

I think technically under the terms of service agreement  it goes a little further than that.

I'm just going by memory.

Hold your horses and click on the links provided in my post, where the concerned companies are named!

It is thanks to model citizens such as yourself that a police state can develop and thrive, as it is currently doing in many countries...

I m not concerned about "being watched" all the time .

I am beggining to sound paranoid : I do not believe that there is anyone watching me and I dont believe that there is anyone or thing, watching my every move

If you cannot read, then your opinion is not shaped by knowledge, but only relies on belief, as you say it yourself.

I personally prefer to know than to believe.

Sorry that you can't click on a link.

The name of one company interested by your every move starts with a G and ends with an E....

100% correct. Easy way to test it is to speak of a brand such as a car in the vicinity of your phone and soon enough google or other well known websites will be showing you said brands adverts.

If you want a browsing experience which is not collecting info.

Get the TOR browser.

Google ?

OK, what will Google do with all the info they have on me ?

7 Billion people in the World , why would Google be watching me ?

Thats helpful though , if you are wanting to buy a car , then its helpful to get shown cars for sale , by way of adverts.

That you would have to ask them!

The link that you can't bother to open is about someone who requested his Google account, as kept by Google, then went through it, page after page.

It's all there, including screenshots to prove that what he says is real.

It sure is!

And if you want to buy fertilizer, it is helpful to have the police knock on your door and ask you how you plan to use it!

Can not do anything really.. If they want catch you, they will catch you.
Give me enough cash and I can find you no matter what.
See bin laden was found at the end.
