I used it to buy a car on credit, and he wrote up the agreement and stated it in my name only, wifey has no need to sign. IT'S MINE, my car, My named debt and my finance....Should I be happy?

It's basically automatic if you have Thai permanent residency (PR).

 

The subject line - "Thai ID for foreigners...."   In reality this card is not granting / indicating that you have Thai citizenship.

Used my pink I'd card to get discounted Thai price to local National park in Lampang district. One park allowed me at Thai price a different park didn't however on a second visit to the same park I finally got discounted local national price.  Also accepted at post office and Bangkok Airways flight BKK to Lampang. I obviously carried my passport in my pocket just in case. They are useful to have at only 100 baht. Wish they did ID cards in UK that would cut down on credit card fraud.

In theory, the pink ID card is worthless.

For example, if you turn it, it says that it is only valid in your home province.
In practice, it works everywhere.

I have my card for two years and it has worked everywhere. Hotels like Mariotte and Hilton accept it even though they must have passport information and TM number from the alien's passport. They just register you as a Thai citizen.
Why does it work?
Because 99% of all Thai people do not know what it is. Nobody wants to lose his face, so they just smile and accept it as if it was a blue Thai ID card.

When I went to Siam Park City in Bangkok, my Thai wife had to pay 500 baht entrance fee, I myself didn´t have to pay any entrance fee.

Proof of address in Thailand is a good thing to have.

Also helps at local Thai hospital(easier for receptionist if your Thai speaking is not good)

Got me into the Hot Springs National Pk, at Fang for 50 baht instead of 500 baht, so aready having a cost of obtaining it at 6O baht, I'm well ahead.

 

Have used at Resorts for check in.Its a novelty. Majority of Thais have never seen it or been aware of .Obviously the rulers didnt explain to  Thais what they were doing issuing it.

 

It also has my blood group and finger prints for ID in case of an accident.

 

Of course if you change address  you start the process of getting one over again.

The best thing about the Pink Card is that you can get the Thai price on virtually any service.

I just show my Thai driving licence for hotels and as ID in banks etc. It has never been a problem. I dont take internal flights.

As a precaution I also carry a laminated copy of the relevant two pages of my passport but I have never been asked for it.

I flew to Bangkok and back last weekend. Both my wife and I were booked on Thai Smile in English names. As always, my Pink ID was automatically accepted without hesitation.

Where on the card does it show your fingerprints and blood group? Maybe you mean in the database.

 

I changed my address three years ago. Getting a new ID card was easy. Just had to have the new house registration book which will show your transfer from the old address to the new address.

This comes up in every thread about Pink ID cards, as explained when I got my pink ID, the statement on the back is a lost in translation thing, it means "not transferable" to another province, it is valid as ID in another province and you are free to travel to another Province but if you move permanently to another province you need to get a new ID from that province. A bit like a license back home, if you  move to another state, you get a license from the new state.

Lots of old threads on the topic, from your local ampher, requirements vary. Actual cost is 50-100 baht. Cost to provide the required documents for your local Ampher may be more, translations, trip to BKK or your embassy etc.

It's just another piece of ID.  Imho, more is better.  It separates you as a long-stay non-resident from the tourists.

As I have already said, the post office in Pattaya refused my pink card.

When I went to Siam Park City in Bangkok, my Thai wife had to pay 500 baht entrance fee, I myself didn´t have to pay any entrance fee. 

Nana Hotel would not accept my pink card, I have had no advantage at all since I got it.

As mentioned before: Its only legal validity is within the Ampur it was issued, and only at the local authorities. For any other use it is up to the other party to accept it or not. And it's definitely not a passport replacement. E.i my bank will only accept it if I open an account with my name in Thai script (which makes sense to me).

 

I guess that most of us get it to "prove" that we are "local" and not tourists, and hope they will treat us as Thai at National Parks etc. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. No harm to have it, and should not complain if they don't accept it.

I used mine at Udon Thani flying with AirAsia to Phuket, no issue, straight through.

 

I had an issue on the way back at Phuket aiprport to Udon Thani, check in staff lady said, no sir I require your passport and gave me back my pink ID card, I said, this is a domestic flight isn't it, yes sir, can I ask do Thai's need their passports when flying domestic flights, no sir, then why won't you accept my ID card, because you are a farang sir, and all farangs are required to provide their passports, wasn't going to get into an argument with this pretty little thing, so I said, oh ok, then that makes me feel special then, here you go and I handed over my passport, she seemed uneasy, so I tried to make her feel a little better by saying, I am glad you told me that because the staff at Udon Thani let me through without asking for my passport, and was now thinking that I didn't need to take my passport on domestic flights, so I would have a problem in the future wouldn't I, yes sir you would as she smiled, and said always carry your passport sir, and I just smiled and said I would love to just &^%$# over.

 

Apart from that give it with my Thai drivers licence at the usual roadside police check, get the salute and on my way.

 

One thing you forgot to mention when getting the yellow book Peterw42, the amount of paperwork, witnesses and time waiting to get it....lol, but its a one off, not like immigration every year, same bundle of paperwork.

Most domestic airlines seem to accept it (the notable exception being AirAsia). I use mine as ID when picking up prescriptions at hospitals or, if needed, registering at hospital admissions to see a doctor.

 

It can also be useful handing to police if they are undergoing checks. As others have said, they don't really know what to make of it and normally let you go your way.

 

For example, there was a police raid at a karaoke bar I was at the other night. I was the only farang. I'm not sure what they were looking for, but I gave them my pink ID card. They passed it around, gave me a salute and let me get on with my beer in peace.

Your post highlights the inconsistency that Thai workers have in understanding and implementing laws and regulations. Even though my Two Thai Drivers Licenses have never been accepted for the items I listed, you and I actually have no argument.
