if anyone attacks my dog

Not saying this is the case here - but many dog owners seem to feel that everyone else needs to adjust their actions (and tolerance to noise) just because of their hobby.

Except for guide dogs or other working dogs, nobody 'needs' to have a dog.

Similar to smokers, drone pilots, noisy bike owners and durian eaters - it"s your responsibility to not cause your hobby to impact on other people's lives.

  • While there is a law regarding cruelty to animals, a one-time kick that did not injure the dog is nto going to qualify. Let it go, and in future don't let your dog approach strangers.

Have you ever considered keeping your dog on a lead and not letting it out to annoy people? If you have it obviously didnt get any further. Not everyone likes dogs running up to them, myself included. You need to remember Thailand has Rabies and that does not immediately show itself in an animal.

You think a lot of your dog and that is nice but not everyone else wants your dog bothering them

Did the guy run and punt the dog or kick it out the way  ? There's a big difference. Some people have had bad experiences with dogs - especially the little yappy type. If you walked the thing to close to him he may have felt threatened and defended himself from another bite. Cause if he ran from one side of the road and punted the thing 20 feet in the air that i would class as something to take action against.

As a side note....LOS does have Rabies, I never touch or go near a cat or dog unless I know it's history...

I have a very big lady dog that scares the shit out of Thai folk who come to my house, they know the score....Perhaps tourists know the score in LOS too...

Maybe it´s just like you are one of those that let´s their dog run free in the streets. I hate that shit myself. For me it would be enough that your dog came walking after me or sniff my ankle. I would kick it to hell.

Maybe one solution would be to take care of your dog in the same way as you probably have to do in the place you are coming from.

He probably kick because he do not like dogs. I would kick because a think that it might bite me and can be infected with something.
I believe that should be peoples damn right, if a dog runs loose in the street.

Maybe you could trade it in for a rottweiler, I believe they are very kick proof.

Nice reply. I suggest you try it and afterwards accept the consequences of your actions. You obviously dont consider that other people may not find your dog and cute as you do and you should accept that. What is it with dog owners that they feel their dog can do as it likes and no one should have any objection against it?

Here we go again! Another one that can´t realize the differens between humans and other animals. Go buy a t-shirt. You know, the one with the print "People a Iove, and the answer is: Dogs"
I guess you already own one.

Today the tourist kicked my yorkshire terrier. I have to think about it.

I would keep my dog under control, on a leash, and away from other people.

Not everyone will like your dog, especially if it's under their feet, jumping at them, licking them, biting them.

If the tourist came up to your dog, different matter, but that isn't what happened here is it.

there is a life sentence on hitting a Thai dog, usualy it is the thai -owner who will execute the death penalty the first moment you walk unarmed in an dark street ..........

Dogs from Yorkshire however have no Thai id ,so they are not protected by this law ......

Pretty clear ,isn't it?

Every single dog owner says that.

Oh, dear...….. I'm afraid, dear lady, that maybe your idea of how friendly your doggie woggie might be - may not be the same idea as the poor tourist that is unlucky enough to be the centre of unwanted attention because of your foul animal.

I absolutely detest those clueless dog owners who cannot see that not everyone is a 'coochie-coo'  dog lover.  The number of times a colleague's, or even family's pet has jumped up on to me, unexpectedly, (which I loathe), - only to say " Oh don't worry - he's only playing....."

I can imagine that you, as the owner of this mutt, is only too willing to let it , (and I mean, 'it'), lick your face, etc, even after the damn thing has just had it's tongue slapping and lapping away at it's sphincter!

For a country that eats dog the penalty for mistreating a k9 won't be a lot.

Man: Hi, does your dog bite?

Woman: No.

(Man attempts to pat the dog and gets bitten.)

Man: I thought you said your dog doesn't bite ?

Woman: That's not my dog.

Sorry I can't reference a law for you but I can definitely say a natural trait of a Yorkshire terrier  is to be highly territorial.

Dogs are usually friendly to owners/masters but may not be so with all others.

Do you  always keep your dog on a leash when away from your property.

Where did the biting take place?

Are dogs not required to be on a leash (constrained) when on public land?

Was the Yorkie  biting the tourists ankles ?

Why do you think they are called ankle snappers?  ?

Thailand has quite a draconian new(ish) animal cruelty law  with punishment harsher than for kicking a human in the head...you could cause this tourist quite a bit of trouble.

If the dog is "absolutely friendly" why would anyone want to kick it ?

A friendly Yorkie???? Unless of course it knows you. Yappy little things.

If some tourist kicked my dog, I'd kick him back in the 'nads!

And, assuming that your user name reflects your gender, if the tourists tries anything to you in return, smile sweetly and go find a cop for a sexual assault charge.

People who harm animals deserve whatever bad thing that happens to them in return...

Animals are like people, if they attack or attempt to attack you unprovoked, you put them down

by whatever means possible, and then make sure they stay down.

Yorkshire terriers were bred to kill rats and mice in the Yorkshire woolen mills, although small they are not a docile dog, I know my mother had one and it bit the Insurance man on his weekly visits.

I also read something like that in the ThaiVisa news feed recently, but I think it's in specified, or signposted, areas.

Unfortunately, these little “yapping” dogs can be so annoying.  Often they are quite spiteful to others than their “family”, nip and bite for no reason other that one is too close to them.  Often they are spoilt little brats who have to overcompensate for their tiny stature.  I’m not fond of these little miniature creatures, however would never harm one.

Oh right... cheers. I take the view of self defence whereby if I am attacked or in serious danger of being attacked then my wellbeing comes first.

Guess I would get rather mad if the little yapper attacked me.
