Re-entry permit - now with TM30 and Lease

Featured Replies

I heard  that Jomtien Immigration now start to check people when applying for a re-entry permit - if your landlord has not applied a TM30 then theres a fine of 1,600B. Who's gonna pay it I dont know but remember to bring copy of your lease contract as they want to see that too.

Sorry if this has already been brought up.

I know who's going to pay the fine if my landlord hasn't submitted a TM30 - he will. I have that in my contract.

In the other thread it has been noted that many people have done business in Jomtien (retirement extensions, 90 Day reports and re-entry permits) within the last couple of weeks without even being questioned about having a TM.30.

However, a couple months ago a friend of mine (jing jing) was here on his annual winter vacation. He went to an Expat's meeting where someone gave a brief about the TM.30. My friend was concerned and went to his landlady to see if she'd submitted one (to report him). She apparently said that she hadn't, and wasn't planning on doing it either.

My friend was worried that he could be in big trouble (i.e. deportation/blacklisting type trouble) so he went to Jomtien to see what the deal was.

He was taken into that room on the left with a bunch of other expats and had to fill out a TM.30 and was told he had to pay 1,600 baht. He asked the Immigration Officer about why he had to pay and not the landlady who didn't do what she was supposed to.

Naturally he didn't get anywhere and was told he had to pay and he could go back to his landlady and try to get his money back from her !!! (Yeah, that didn't work as you could expect.)

It seems, if you ask them about it, you will end up having to do it and pay the fine. If you don't mention it, you may not be asked about it at all.

However, be prepared as you never know. The person ahead of you may have pissed off the IO and they may decide that they want to see TM.30s from everyone.
No worries though, there is an ATM machine just outside of the office.

Get your re-entry permit at the airport, it's cheaper, faster and there's no lease business or fines.

Correct. I have got my re entry permit on the last 2 occasions at the airport. Absolutely no problems or delays.

That's always been my policy when doing 90 day reports or extensions regarding anything. Don't ask.

... or many years. I recall our condo manager collecting details of residents (regardless of whether they were owners or renters) for immigrations quite a few years ago. I've never changed address since then. For extensions I have a copy of my deed and a recent utility bill and have never been asked about a TM.30. No point in asking about it if they don't say anything.

This is correct. Have done multiple re-entry visas at both airports...quick and efficient. 10 to 15 mins max. No questions asked

It's neither cheaper nor faster

They will ask you 200 baht more than at Jomtien if you not come with a filled form and a photo.

Can you get the re-entry any time day or night ? at the airport.

So fill out a form and take a photo!

It seems to me that I used to get charged 1,200 baht at Chiang Mai Immigration and there was no choice about not paying for the photo. Immigration at Swampy charged me 1,000 three weeks ago and since the place you get them is right next to the Immigration Departure counters, for me it was much quicker than driving the 22 kms. into Chiang Mai, waiting for the permit and then driving 22 kms home! So yes, cheaper and faster, for me!

I am unsure, certainly from 6am until late evening but am unsure about the small hours.

I never did anything at immigration without a copy of TM30 and proof of accommodation.

They didn't always ask for them, but I'm sure if I didn't have them that would be the time they'd ask to see them.

I'd say that most people don't have a clue about TM30's and won't have them. I don't even know if my landlord did one for me as I've had conflicting reports from my real estate agent. I think even he is confused about what they are. If your landlord did one, you won't have any evidence of it. I even did a change of address (form T28) last year and there wasn't a mention of TM30. I wouldn't mention it. If they ask, I'll suggest my landlord would have done that. If they fine me, I'll take it out of the rent each and every time, until the landlord decides to comply, if he hasn't already.

The landlord has to have proof, and you can get a  photocopy if done at the office, or a printout if done on line. The latter is what I get. I had to have TM30 when I last did an extension, but not for 90 day ( in Chiang Mai ).

I don't deal directly with a landlord, so stuff like that is hard to track down. I won't be snooping around the Jomtien Office looking for copies. That could attract an unnecessary attention and/or fines.

Depends what extension you're doing.

I wasn't asked for a TM30 for my retirement extension but my wife and daughter needed one for their Ed and Guardian extensions.
