Rimmer Posted June 22, 2018 Share Posted June 22, 2018 Roaches join rats, sewage on list of Pattaya Beach blemishes PATTAYA:--The rats endemic on Pattaya Beach have new neighbors: cockroaches. Kanrapa Mukdasanit of the Disease Control Department on June 13 blamed tourists and locals for the insect scourge by improperly disposing of their food, trash and other waste. However, the cockroaches are nesting and swarming around putrid beach outflow pipes through which raw sewage has repeatedly spilled over the past year, clearly showing that Pattaya City Hall, not beach-goers, shoulders most of the blame. Pattaya has battled in recent years against both an epidemic of rats and frequent sewage spills, both of which have spoiled the sand and sea and only amplified Pattaya’s long-running reputation for having a filthy beach. The roaches are doing nothing to dispel that image. City officials, however, seem content to blame tourists for dropping food and litter. Why is that a hard concept to grasp? When you invite tourist to an area there will need to be some effort made to keep the area in presentable condition as it is when any number of humans gather. Its a cost of doing business. And if you want to keep doing business you need to provide some effort to keep your offering in good shape. Of course if you put down enough pesticide all the creepy crawlers will be gone, not the trash, but the insects will be gone until it all washes into the sea. Which will be right after you have poisoned (to some degree) those who go to the beach, especially the youngsters that tend to put everything in their mouths. In the end it would seem Pattaya has so many contributing factors to this issue it is going to take more effort than what the current city fathers are willing to expend. How to get those filthy Farang tourists to stop throwing their rubbish on the beach because Thai people don't do that sort of stuff Also in their line of thinking they might have stumbled on a gold mine here. They could fine those filthy Farang tourists 200,000 Baht because they are breeding Roaches and throwing rubbish on the beach which is quite opposite to what Thai people do The Farang also have no work permit to breed Roaches. The recent first reaction of chief of police to drugs and violence was a sentence that started with "this will damage the image of blablabla....." instead of "we realize that we have a problem with....." They are always more concerned about the effects on tourism when it comes to criminal activity and environmental hazards instead of human lives and the quality of life.
