A 15-year-old girl in Nakhon Si Thammarat is trying to track down the Japanese father she has never met.

Chatthiyamol Nakajima, a seventh grader at Sattree Thung Song School, said on Monday that she was hoping to meet her father, even it was only a one-off event.

She has filed a report with the provincial Damrong Tham Centre, seeking help in locating her father, Koichi Nakajima, who her mother left when she was three months’ pregnant.

The girl said her mother, Kusuma Thitsree, 40, had become depressed following a business bankruptcy and had gone to stay at a temple in Bangkok, leaving the girl to live with her grandmother.

She said she just wanted the chance to hug her father once and added that her mother had fallen out with the father and had refused to give her any information which could help her locate him.

The girl’s grandmother, Lamai Thitsri, 75, said her daughter had had a business in Bangkok in 2001 and married a Japanese man, who was then 45 years old.

She said her daughter became angry with her Japanese husband shortly after their marriage, returned home while she was pregnant and refused to contact him again.

Lamai said Kusuma’s business in Nakhon Si Thammarat flopped and she became bankrupt, causing her to become depressed and leave home to stay at a Bangkok temple.

She said the only things she knew about Koichi was that he was an engineer or an academic who needed to travel to several countries in connection with his work and would now be 60-61 years old.
