CHIANG RAI, 2nd July 2018, (NNT) - Rescuers are believed set to reach the so-called ‘Pattaya Beach’ chamber of the Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai province, as the effort continues to locate the young football team missing in the cave complex for over a week .

Despite strenuous efforts, the very difficult conditions, have meant the rescuers have not yet been able to make any contact with the 12 missing boys and their football coach stranded deep inside Tham Luang Cave.

Officials said today that divers have now been able to reach a point 400 meters from the third chamber and estimate that their current position is 500 meters away from the ‘Pattaya Beach’ chamber, a location where any survivors are likely to be waiting for rescue.

Chiang Rai Governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn, said today that efforts continue to be being focused on draining the cave, with the Royal Thai Airforce deploying its C-130 carrier to transport additional essential equipment to the site.

Earlier this morning, members of the medical team on site held a meeting with rescuers. They speculated that survivors would be exhausted and would not be able to join divers on a swim to safety. They resolved to send in food supplies and nurse them back to better health before making the return trip.

Officials also continue to deliver oxygen to those operating inside the cave, while maintaining the water pumps and power generators. Both are currently operating normally.

Meanwhile, the plan to transport the survivors has now evolved into using helicopters as the only mode of transportation.

Officials have laid down a plan, saying the helicopters, which are from both the Royal Thai Police and the Military, will fly to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital. The flight time is expected to be between 15-30 minutes.

Medical personnel are reportedly on standby at the hospital to receive survivors when extracted from the cave. The hospital has also allocated space for the treatment of the missing 13 on the 8th and 14th floors. Drills have been staged to make sure the actual event proceeds smoothly and safely.

Government Spokesperson Lt. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd has indicated that the Prime Minister has stressed that it is important to conduct the transportation safely and plan for unexpected events as part of the search. He expressed his satisfaction with the latest drill, as the transport time has been much improved from the previous trial runs .

The food is not the problem, Hypothermia is the problem, a week without food plus constantly wet and cold, little or no hope for the lads! saying that there is always hope until all hope is lost!

Why would you think they were wet or cold?

The caves in Thailand are usually a bit hot and sweaty, sometimes muddy or dusty.

Seriously! The caves are flooded with rain water, it will be very cold through the nights, did the lads and coach go into the caves prepared for an emergency? is this just a troll post????

The caves are almost completely dry, apart from some flooded passages.

If you bother to watch any to the Thai news, you can see many dry people walking, and climbing around in the cave system.

Rescue mission resumes on ninth day, SEAL units closer to target area

By Thai PBS

Rescuers began their ninth day of search for the 12 missing young footballers and their coach this morning with the elite SEAL units attempting to make further advance toward the so-called Pattaya Beach inside Tham Luang cave where the boys are believed to be stranded.

Chiang Rai Governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn confirmed at a press conference this morning that the SEAL rescuers have already reached the fork in the cave known as Sam Yaek that leads to the target area, another 2 kilometers away.  The passage leading to Pattaya Beach is on the left of the fork but the governor said with enough personnel, the SEAL teams will also attempt to advance toward the right passage.

Even though authorities are focusing their attention on Pattaya Beach, they do not discount the possibility of the missing boys sheltering at some other known chambers inside the cave.  Other rescue units have been exploring other possible points of entry into the cave.

Stay positive, the divers are nearly there. The time passed is not too long to be without food.

It’s not the food issue that worries me. It’s the lack of clean water and possibly poor air volumes. These kids are in a world of hurt right now.

500 meters is not much to go now. I think of it as just over a lap and a 1/4 on the running track. Looking to hear good luck as it should be very soon today they reach the point.

Have you swam 500m in cold dark tunnels using scuba gear and hauling ropes to guide yourself out and spare air and lights?

The SEALs are amazing at their jobs but don’t make it sound easy.
