I had a Rupp when I was a kid...

A friend of mine had a Little Indian, then a Rupp.  Later on he got a Pontiac GTO.  Collected quite a few more GTOs over the years.  A neighbor kid had a Rupp go-kart.

I was born in Mansfield, Ohio where the Rupps were manufactured.  Mickey Rupp's dad co-founded Gorman-Rupp, a large manufacturer of pumps.

I wonder who made those little Indians, they were good looking. I think Micky Rupp is still alive, yes?

I saw this before with a picture of a Triumph but think it deserves its own post. A spin-off of F1 technology?

I was in a fair sized shop in Massachusetts back in the '70s that still had a functioning  line-shaft in the ceiling. It had been converted from steam to diesel.

All 2" leather belts running from the machines up to the line-shaft. To turn am machine off, you moved the belt over on to an idler-pully. To reverse, you had a second belt, on a second idler-pully that had a 180 degree twist....

It was wild...

The Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC used to have a large collection of some beautiful machine tools.  I don't know where they moved it.

Love them or hate them 'Leccy bikes are here and Curtiss are on a mission to make them as wacky and off the wall as possible ..

The top four pic's are the Curtiss One and show a high level of innovation , imagination and top class engineering ..

Bottom bike is the V8 Zeuss mimicking their very early V8 ..

1965 Lil Indian ad

I believe Mickey is still living in Mansfield.

I was talking about the little Indians that looked like enduros. I assume they were imports someone put the Indian name on. I'm thinking they were all white. Maybe late '70s early '80s.

Taco was big on the west coast.

I had an Ingels-Borelli go-cart. Bought as junk frame-only and I got it going. No clutch and no brakes. Kill the engine to stop. Got shocked countless times stopping it...

Unless Sears was a separate US brand, this was likely an import built for Sears. Does the engine look familiar to anyone?

My sister has a Sears scooter (I think) build by by Vespa.

Sears had an amazing product line, they manufactured virtually nothing, but their market share was so big all the top US brands manufactured for them. If it was a Sears product, it was most always great product.

Was born in a very small prairie town.

My uncle had a blacksmith shop, huge leather bellows hanging from the roof.

Added machine tools after WW2, electric powered with a roof mounted shaft and leather belts down to different machines - lathe, mill, grinders, etc.
