Please... Show some empathy - the guard's job can be done using a flag or a brightly colored sign. No power or self esteem lost.    I completely agree with the OP, the whistling is absurd.

A lot of people dont realise, these guys are assigned to you when you enter the country, thats what the immigration guy is doing when you think he is checking your passport. Its either a guy with a wh

The man's got a job. He takes it seriously. The whistle represents his sense of identity, power and self esteem. And you want to take that away from him?  It's not about public safety, it's about your

Funny how when some people move to Thailand everything is rosy and those people readily accept behaviour they never would back home. If someone was constantly blowing a whistle outside where you live back in Farangland, all day long for no practical purpose whatsoever, I'm 100 per cent certain you'd be doing something about it, as this chap feels he needs to.

Perhaps what he needed to do about it was not move in there if he was so irritated by a whistling guard?  He had a choice.

They can still [do] the job without a whistle.

Does anyone pay any attention to these clowns, whistle or no whistle? When parking, or dealing with traffic, I only find them a distraction.

That is the worse thing about the whole issue. The whistle is useless, has no effect except, as you say, a distraction. I wouldn't mind him doing his job if it had any purpose.

Same thing with the guards on the BTS platforms.  Some blow so loud they're a tinnitus risk.  I make sure to stand well away from them.

yes but cattle herding dudes in that sort of Uniform, on platforms, have whistles for a reason

The MRT guys used to be the worst. Lately, they have toned it down quite a bit.

I have a couple "Storm" whistles. I thought I'd give the guards a thrill one of these days. These whistles are so loud they make one's ears ring!

Unfortunately, when in Rome. It's their culture.

ANY time you come up to a situation you don't like, you have 3 options.

1) Learn to live with it.

2) Can't live with it, try to change it.

3) If the above two don't work, seek life elsewhere.

Alpha Canadian.... lolz is there such a thing?

Anyway, you realize you moved to a third world country?

You want civilization, go back to Toronto.

Lol. Same as his other post trying to hook up with western girls.
This guy must enjoy his time here...

I too have seen this all over the city. It's like it makes them feel important or something. My advice MOVE!

Theres two stand outside Terminal 21 blowing whistles at the crossing I often wonder if drivers know who's blowing what whistle for what reason. Thye might as well not be there for all the help they are stop pedestrians for the cars and then let the cars still go thru when the pedestrians are crossing.

The only think you can give a Thai man that is worse than a whistle is an electric grinder.
