Why did so many Chinese passengers die in the boat sinking?

Last Friday many deceased Chinese tourists were found floating, face down, in the wake of Thursday evening’s disaster. Bouyancy vests, life jackets, bouyancy aids – what’s the difference? Tim gets into a pool to demonstrate how wearing the right ‘vest’ could save your life.

The best vest in the world won't save you if the boat is overcrowded and you can't get to an exit.  My bet is that the foul weather chased more than the usual numbers inside, where many were trapped when the boat went down.   

 

Then there was the absolutely criminal stopping of the search overnight, as if boats don't have lights.  Who knows how many succumbed to exhaustion during that delay.

 

It would be interesting to see how many passengers the boat was licensed for, and how many passengers a developed country would consider appropriate for a boat that size used for that purpose.

I'm normally agnostic to the majority of incidences that are reported. But that was a bit cheeky IMO. A real cheapshot to those who actually trapped in that situation.

Terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to the families of the victims.. My assumption (Monday morning quarterbacking) is that passengers put their vests on inside the boat and then couldn't get out once filled with water. This why flight crew will advise during the safety demo, do not inflate your vest until outside of the aircraft.

For sure calling off the search left many to die. Someone needs to explain why this happened.

I read only about 10 were traped inside the boat. That leaves 30 who died in the first night. None were found alive after the night.

But that said with all the secrets and miss informarion maybe there was a continued search, but i read it was called off at dark. 

So  close to chalong pier there is no excuse. There are hundreds of boats and fishing fleet in chalong.

Its just wrong. The weather was over at 7 pm. It was a beautifull calm sunny day on friday and no storms in the night. But no one alive who went into the water.and was not rescued on thursday before dark.

waves were 5 meters high, even if you had a life vest on, you could still have drown with big waves constantly pounding you, most were not able to swim as well.

If it were a case of , "5 metre waves , nothing can survive that ! " , then all the boats should have went down!

(Just as the Thai excuse / logic of , " The car crash happened because of a wet road ", means cities like Vancouver should therefore not have car left on the streets.. ).

Check any pics or video of this tragedy and note the lack of anything resembling even 3 metre waves.

 

This sad story is about  mismanagement and incompetence.

 

And not having the fortitude to continue  the search is about criminal negligence.

 

I just read today that most of the missing are actually kids.

Can you imagine being a surviving parent  on Thursday evening and witnessing  the search being abandoned a few hours after the event  ....and thinking of your baby floating out there in the dark ??

Nothing to wonder about. They would all be on deck quickly ahead of the cabin stampede for the door. No doubt they were first into the inflatable life boats.

Automatic self inflating rafts are required and present where required. They had 4 or 5.

But only one bilge pump, from what I've read. The same article stated there should have been 4. Then again the vessel was a bad design to start with it would seem, especially in squalls or foul weather. The word unstable was mentioned. But yes, they did have large inflatable life rafts which deployed. Too bad so many didn't have time to get aboard one.

Just like the Titanic... Poor design and poor seamanship. Nothing to do with God, if there is one. Just frail, greedy and stupid humans, IMHO.
