PHUKET:-- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha today rated the ongoing Tham Luang cave rescue operation and the sinking of the Phoenix Phuket tour boat disaster as “equally important”. But added, “The cave rescue is the main issue here today.”

PM Prayut gave his appreciation of the two key issues that have thrown Thailand into the international media spotlight during his visit to Phuket today (July 9) over the rescue-recovery operations in the aftermath of the Phoenix sinking off Koh Hei (Coral Island) last Thursday (July 5).

With already 41 people confirmed dead, the Phoenix disaster is one of the worst maritime disasters in Thailand’s modern history.

I fail to see how. One represents an awesome piece of cooperation from people all over Thailand and the world, coming together to do something amazing in saving lives. The other shows the greed and ineptitude that dogs the country so often, showing its failure to appreciate the safety of the people it depends upon for its income. Only if the Government totally stamps down on the dangerous practices and scams in tourism can he truly say he shows it a significant level of importance.

Absolute hogwash. 50 plus massacred by negligence vs 1 dead through unfortunate circumstances.

The Chiang Rai cave story has been blown completely out of proportion when one looks at the real tragedies that are happening the world over on a daily basis.

The coming together of people is heart warming to see.

However the tragedy in Phuket has been completely overshadowed, dozens of families are now bereaved all because of the greed and ignorance of even the most basic safety guidelines.

Those in power are gasbags. They say the right stuff sometimes, but it stops there as nothing really actually changes.. The carnage goes on unabated whether it be on the roads, at sea, basically anywhere in this cesspool of corruption and ineptitude. It never ends.. Simply rinse and repeat

I would suggest one incident will unlikely be repeated, the other will be forgotten soon with few if any lessons learned.

Yes Thailand is peace at any price and money without conscience.  The rulers of Thailand have no virtue, only unmitigated power.   If this happened in China and other countries, something would be done.  In Thailand, nope.

He should have said that the two disasters were independent from each other. There is no correlation and should not be compared....

Wooda Shooda Cooda , but that would take a brain, and he is the tin man
